Aurora 14Ct Nibs: Small V Bigger

bbs

Recommended Posts

Hi, probably not the best title for this question, but I happened across Mr SBRE Brown's review of Aurora nibs yesterday and the stub is tempting me.

However, funds are in rather short supply, and I was wondering if there was much difference in performance between the larger size, as in the Talentum, and the smaller size used in the Talentum Finesse and Ipsilon Deluxe.

In other words, can I get the same performance for less? Could this be my lucky day and the answer for once is 'yes'? 🙏

I find lots of difference between the stub in my Talentum and the stub in my small 88. Both are nice but the Talentum is almost at the level of a Sheaffer Ft. Madison stub and nothing is better than those.

Hmmm, many thanks, Jar. I do prefer the look of the Talentum, just not the price tag. Oh well, if the nib is worth it ....

There are lots of other options. One of my favorites is the Hastil. Often they are available very reasonably. Then there are also the 98 series. Great reliable pens.

AbE:

There may even still be some Archivi Storici pens left. They may be the best deal out there.

It's important to keep in mind there are multiple versions of the Talentum. The lower-end version has a smaller, steel nib as in the Ipsilon and the upper-end version has the same large 14K gold nib found in the Optima and 88.

My Talentum has the 14K nib and though it is not a stub, it is the best writer in my pen collection.

Yes, I have a Hastil, and three Archivi Storicis, including a piston filler. Lovely pens. But it's a stub nib that I'm after now .....

Jar, does your small 88 have the same size nib as the Ipsilon Deluxe and Talentum Finesse? Thanks.

Thanks - yes, I've also got a steel-nibbed Ipsilon, which I really like, and a large Talentum with a broad nib. But the review of the stub nib looked so fabulous I just wondered if the stub in that was markedly different from the larger stub the full-size version has. Larger nib more room for 'softness' and spring? Or just bigger tip, more line variation?

It's more the nib I'm after than the pen it comes in!

What is a 'trik-trak filling system?

Just a press-bar converter http://www.pengallery.com/aurora-trik-track-converter-for-magellano-and-hastil-fountain-pen/

Other models that fit are discussed in this post https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/157799-aurora-hastil/page-2

Since I have never owned a Ipsilon Deluxe or Talentum Finesse I can't answer that but here is the nib imaged.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
