Lamy Dialog 3 Curved Nib

Recommended Posts

I received yesterday the Lamy Dialog 3 bought on eBay. The nib is curved as you can see in these two pictures.

Previously I saw many pictures of the fountain pen but never with a curved nib. Googling I was not able to see a single picture of a curved nib either. Did older or earlier models have a curved nib?

Thank you :)

My Dialog is not an old one, but no review picture nor other information I have seen shows a curved nib. I reckon it is a damaged pen.

Definitely damaged. Lamy does not make nibs like that!

It looks like a simple bend so a nib technician should be able to straighten it for you for less than the price of a new gold nib.

No need to apologise - 'curved' just a good a word to use to describe the nib as 'bent'!

It can be straightened out. there are a lot of guys out there that can fix your nib. Ron Zorn of Main Street Pens is very good.

In this case he would better return the pen to seller. And I wonder how much a nib-smith would ask for this. A new nib costs 75 EUR.

I recently purchased a new Lamy Dialogue 3 from Dromgoole's in Houston. I believe your nib should look like this. I was pleasantly suprised how well this pen performs. The nib is always perfectly moist when opened, absolutely no evaporation. Smooth as butter!

Does your pen write shaped like that?

Thanks ChrisV. I will not write with the pen. It was listed as unused, arrived used with evident signs of ink and a bent nib. I asked the seller to return it, I am waiting for the answer. The seller wrote she will not accept return, but this is a fraud.

I like very much the twin colored nib of Lamy Dialog 3, straight. Not what I got :(

@angelo_lopes, just to help you in your dealings with the ebay seller, it may be helpful to know: Lamy pre-test all their nibs, so there's often a bit of ink residue under the nib. It's *possible* that the signs of ink come from the factory (unless there's more than just a very small amount), and that the original owner has not used the pen - but the nib is undeniably damaged.

If they won't refund you your money (or come to some other mutually agreeable arrangement), I'd initiate a dispute through eBay and or PayPal (haven't done this in a while, so don't remember how it works - but they're usually pretty good at getting your money back! when you've been defrauded!).

No way is that nib new and un-inked from factory. Very unlikely.. I hope you can work something out with the seller, a partial refund if nothing else.

I believe dirty is not from a pre-test, unless Lamy tests the these pens with the Ink converter they will ship to the future buyer.

Also the ballvalve is dirty. The pen was used for sure.

Regarding partial refund, I was cheated. Partial refund would help buy a new nib, but I will fight for return and full refund.

Agreed, the pen has obviously been used - Lamy tend to just dip-test the nibs, not to leave copious amounts in the cartridge converter! In the circumstances, I hope you're able to get your money back. I'd be demanding a full refund too, and pursuing it through all the channels eBay and PayPal provide.

How much did you pay for this pen? If you don't mind my asking..

The converter and contridge assembly would be cleanly placed in plastic.

That pen has been thoroughly used from what I see in the last photos. Not to mention the nib abuse. There is no way you wont get refunded and soon I hope.

Hopefully you'll get your money back. If the seller does not, post full refund, want the pen back then place a ticket on the Lamy fault desk site - they'll get you to send the pen to them in Germany and fix it for you. Cost wise I can't say, the gold nib is ~ £75/€75, however they tend to just assume the pen is under 2 years old and fix for free.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
