My pen and bottle arrived today.  It's certainly darker than I expected, though interestingly when I tried it along side the dark lilac (in the appropriately coloured safari pens, both medium nibs) I actually felt the petrol was the wetter of the two.

Thanks for your Public Service.

Like many here I was wondering if this would grab me.

I'm still cringing (don't read that as "crying"!) about missing out on Dark Lilac bottles from last year's now you see it, now you want it, now it's already gone follies. I got several boxes of cartridges of that ink once I'd seen it on paper at home, so there's that.

From the looks of the Petrol pen and ink I saw online I guessed I didn't want either of them. You've helped me confirm this, but I will say your examples got closer to me than I'd first predicted.

I do wish Lamy or any other LE ink makers would bring the really popular releases into regular production status. It would seem they could sell a lot more. Maybe they're afraid it would dilute sales of other of their inks. Maybe Branding takes precedence over Satisfying. (Avoid future regret!)

They could re-release Dark Lilac as Blood of Prince...too ghoulish, I know.

Fabulous review. I've been undecided about whether to get this ink or not, since I already have the KWZ Northern Twilight.

Apparently only cartridges so far for America too, which are all sold out, with a limited number of bottles in May. I guess they take the word limited seriously.

I suspect the success of Dark Lilac is probably urging people to order. Hate to say that's one reason I did a preorder, but that's why I did a preorder.

Great review, Vis.  Thank you for your service to the community.

I had been waiting for this one ever since I saw the pen.  The colour of the petrol Safari grabs me in a way that the ink just does not.  For some reason I think that teals are a very cramped family of inks with some very strong competition already well established (R&K Verdigris, Diamine Shubert and Diamine Teal, for instance).  I don't think we needed another and certainly not one as green as Lamy Petrol.

Now, if they were to release a Lamy Studio in petrol....oh my!!

Got 2 bottles yesterday and I'm very happy with the ink, very nice color, to me, with nice flow and no feather or bleedtrough

I prefer the way 'Petrol' is represented in the color of the pen to the ink.
Best, greg

Great review! I always love reading your reviews.

The ink certainly isn't what I would have expected. I was envisioning a bit bluer coloration. I have the pen, and somehow thought the ink would represent the bluer side of dark teal.

No matter. I will probably buy a bottle when it is available.

Yes, and I am kicking myself for not buying Dark Lilac when I could have.

Waiting for my cartridges, three boxes.  Is this going to look like Racing Green?

Had a chance to try some this past weekend and my single line of writing is significantly darker than I had anticipated.

Well, it's good and dark.  I can read it.

This past week I tested the Lamy Petrol pen with its ink (cartridge). I really like the pen, the ink not so much. It comes close to dark forest green according to my wife. I find it just too dark for my taste. It needs a lot of light to see the different to black ink. Maybe the nib size is the reason. I have the EF on the pen. I won't be buying the bottle and my four remaining cartridges are for sale.

I bought Diamine Teal to try and now I'm happy. I needed a lighter Teal with a blue tone.

Well I broke down and bought a pack of cartridges for £2. Dark it is, and to my eye, nearly indistinguishable from Diamine Teal. Petrol is indeed more green, and darker, but I wouldn't call it 'materially' different.

This is right in my wheelhouse. After purples, blue/greens from teal to turquoise, are my favorite inks.

I pre-ordered from Pen Chalet in Arizona. I emailed them, and they set it up so that I could pay in advance to guarantee a shipment. They have one of the fairest prices for the ink as well.

Yes, and I am kicking myself for not buying Dark Lilac when I could have.

I was on the mailing lists and pre-order lists for Dark Lilac. I was in class whenever the emails would come through, and by the time I checked my email and tried to order--Poof! All gone.

But I dug around the internet until I found a bottle at long last. I haven't needed to use it because I bought some of the carts, plus I got samples of it with an order. Sparing use has kept me inked up without having to touch the bottle, yet, but that will soon change.

I'm thinking, though, that I should have bought two bottles when I had the chance.

Good question. I don't have Bleu Equinoxe 6 any more but let's compare Leuchtturm color range samples (they were made with different pens) so that doesn't count. Unless I have somewhere RHodia with Blue Equinoxe samples. I'll check it.

What about Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-ro? That would seem to be another one that's really close.

It's certainly pretty enough (seems somewhat similar to Miruai, maybe a little bluer). I was going to pass but then thought "heck, why not" and I ordered a bottle. I'll try it in one of the Waterman JIFs that on the way.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.
