Krishna Smiritis

DISCLAMER - I have been very content customer, of Kim and Krishna pens, over several years. I own a certain number of both brands. I have paid for my pens.

Thank you for reading this review, which reflects my impressions, and also emotions, regarding the pen, but as well as its maker.

Dr Sreekhumar, also known as SK, here at FPN is a reputed nib master and, more recently, ink wizard (Krishna inks, so well reviewed by mehandiratta, here at FPN),

He also turns, and sells, his own pen, Krishna brand.

Dr Sreekumar has now started a new adventure by making lacquered pens.

I was priviledged enough to be the recipient of his first experimental lacquered pens. I have christened hree of these new Krishna models.

The model I am presenting is Krishna Smiritis (the one to be remembered).

Pen measurements

Length when closed - 14,80cm

Length when opened (nib included) - 13,80cm

Cap's length - 6,80cm

Nib's lenght - 2,40cm

Material

Pen's material - red ebonite, red ripple ebonite lacquer + gold glitter

Pen's finish - lacquer and god glitter

Nib's material - steel

Nib

Stipula like F flex

Filling system

ED and C/C

Krishna Smiritis is slender pen, which is not a usual size in what indian pens is concerned. ;)

The body is smooth and warm. A tactile pleasure.

The section grip is very confortable and long hours of writing present no problem.

The clip design is Krishna's, and suits perfectly the ensemble.

The Stipula like nib is an F steel made nib. It's flex is easy, and produces very fine line variations going from 0,06cm to 1,1cm. I have great fun using it. It's smoothness is superbe, and enhances the pleasure.

Krishna Smiritis was inked with Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz. As you can see, this ink feathers when used with cheap paper. :( Otherwise, with good paper, it is a very well behaved, and interesting ink.

Thank you fo reading this review.

Thank you for sharing another beautiful Krishna pen with us. it is quite lovely & I am impressed with the nib. I have a Stipula Titanium Flex nib & always enjoy using it. I received my box of inks from India yeaterday & have had fun filling different pens to try out the various inks. I wish you were closer & we could play Indian inks with your new pens! I bet there would be one or two that you would find enjoyable in those pens!

@Barkingpig - Yes, it is a pity to have such a vast ocean between us!

I am sure we would have had great fun, and that our pens, nibs, and inks would have danced like crazy, using tones of paper. :)

Thank you for the pictures of another great Krishna pen, fountainpagan. You are a great enabler for his pens...

I too have received my box of Krishna inks, and have started to play with them. Using, of course, Indian pens.

As the people of ThePenWorld said, the inks ended up costing a bomb of money, but I am still happy I did it... they are great. Love the color intensity, and they flow very well... Lots of fun ahead.

Enjoy the anticipation... and the inks, once they're in your hands or better, your pens!

I expect dr Sreekumar tests his inks in his own pens, so you're sure to have a great experience...

I purchased a couple of Kim and Krishna pens via Ebay some time ago, and I've been really pleased with them, In fact, they're the only Indian eyedropper pens I own that never leak or burp and they required no adjustment whatsoever. Did you purchase this pen from Dr. Sreekhumar directly? Does he have a website where his pens can be ordered?

Interesting pen, I do love his pens too, though not a fan of 'bling', I love the idea of lacquering the pens. I must write to him about this.

He was very gracious enough to replace/send new ones when a batch that I received turned out to have issues that rendered them useless. Given the high quality of his earlier work, I wrote to him and he was generous to send me new ones as a replacement at no cost. One of them has become my workhorse and favourite pen in rotation for a while.

Rockydog, I purchase my pens ddirectly from Dr Sreekumar. He has a site I regularly consult: http://krishnapens.in/

Flummoxed, the Smiritis is not a bling pen -I have enhanced the light for the détails to be better seen.

@[member='fountainpagan'], Apologies, on second viewing they definitely aren't bling.

No need to apologize, Flummoxed. You are entitled to your opinion. I was just justifying the fact of the pen looking so shinny. BTW, I intensly dislike bling pens. ;)

Here is a photo, with a normal light.

Krishna Bai is a little bit less discret, indeed, because of the golden ends, but the glitter is quite subdued.

Yes, this photo changes the perspective! I like the changes in colour between the cap and the body, it reminds me of bamboo.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
