Noodler's For 1St Time Ever In France 🇫🇷 @ L'ecritoire Paris

Hi,

In Paris, France, there is a little pen and paper shop called L'Ecritoire. It's been part of the city since 1975 and they have a great selection of good quality paper (Original Mills, calligraphy paper, custom made letter paper, notebooks, etc.), fountain pens (everything Lamy, Kaweco, Recife, etc.), calligraphy inks, nibs and holders, as well as inks by J. Herbin and their own custom branded L'Ecritoire Encre Stylographique (I love their Laurier and Sucre Roux).

Yesterday, I went in to get a bit more paper and ink when I realized they had Noodler's Nib Creepers, Ahabs and Konrads. They also have Noodler's Apache Sunset, Red-Black, Squeteague and X-Feather.

After about an hour talking with the very lovely M. & Mme Tardy who own and run the shop, I discovered that they had contacted Nathan Tardif and imported a small selection of his pens and inks. They were having a great time writing with their Ahab and discovering the joy of local patrons such as yours truly who literally left with a skip in their step having bought for the first time ever Noodler's pens and ink in Paris without having to go through the hassle of international import/shipping fees.

Personally I just bought my first Ahab, a bottle of Squeteague which is one of my favorite inks and a bottle of the mythical Apache Sunset.

The stocks are extremely limited for now. We are hoping it sells well after all the work Mme Tardy put in to bring these pens and inks. We are also hoping it is just the first of many batches of these products brought to France.

I'm glad for you and everyone who can access Nathan's products through their store and expand their experience a bit more. I see you didn't waste any time experimenting with your new tools.

Thanks!

Let me know when you are in town. Could be an excuse to go to the shop and meet you there.

I love this shop but know that I can't go out of it empty handed: too many things I love and great people to boot!

How could I ? It was like finding a unicorn in the middle of the city! Of course I wanted to play with it immediately! Sat at a nearby juice bar and started to play. Now,, a few weeks later, I am at the tinkering stage of the Ahab and enjoying it! I'm a tinkerer, how could I not just love the Ahab?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
