Thanks To Ron Zorn, Main Street Pens

To Ron Zorn, a big thank you for, within seconds, helping me fix a problem that had been developing for several years!

 

On a whim, I asked him about a very odd part and he reached into a bin and pulled out something like its very close cousin and refused payment for it. Got it home, tweaked it a bit, and voila, perfect!

I had Ron rehab a Parker 51 Vac last year at the Triangle Pen Show. It was fascinating to watch him work -- all while people would come up to him to talk about PCA stuff, Robyn needed to have him take a peek at a pen another guy wanted him to repair, and so on. He worked on my pen largely by feel!

He even opened up the tines on the nib (which was a EF) so it wasn't so scratchy. Not my favorite pen (or nib) but at least it's now tolerable to write with. :rolleyes:

Ron fixed two family pens for me that had moldered under the rafters in a hot, humid climate since 1964. The much-abused Waterman wasn't even straight anymore. Somehow he straightened the boomerang shape into something resembling a pen, resacced both, added a feed to the no-name, created bits for caps that had suffered massive changes to the plating and crumbly bits where primitive plastics had been. In short, I now have the pens of two long-departed family members in every day use on my desk and kitchen island and find joy in holding something they used every day :cloud9: :wub: :happycloud9:

He is a pretty sharp guy. When someone posts about a problem they're having with a pen, I always look to see if Ron has chimed in.

When I got (back) into pens about 7 years ago, I found FPN, and Ron was one of the first people to answer some of my questions. Not long after that, he became the first person to sell me a pen (or two). He combines a long career's worth of information with a genial, helpful spirit. It's people like Ron that make this all so satisfying and enjoyable, and we are in his debt.

I had an order with Ron which arrived at my local p.o. in the U.K. - and as usual they wanted £X for Customs & Excise - so the next day I went in to pay - only to be told they'd made a mistake and sent it out in that day's post back to the States. With extreme generosity Ron was just about to send a repeat order at his own cost, when my original package arrived back on his desk, and which is now on it's way back to me at Ron's expense for the repeat postage.

​So a very big thanks to Main Street Pens for their help and generosity to pen collectors wherever they seem to be. Thanks Ron. :)

I would be claiming the repeat mail cost back from UK Customs and Excise for Ron. Their mistake, not his. :angry:

He's got my Cartier ringtop and is proposing to build a new section for it. If for nothing but sheer curiosity, I can't wait to see the results.
