A new pen arrived this afternoon from UK (thanks to Izods Pens Limited), not really foreseen but I like so much the nib I couldn't resist to buy it :) It is a F nib, the first in my collection and I'm really happy by the pen.

Now some photos:

And a writing sample and quotes of Cervantes with the F nib and the MB elixir parfumeur wood & tobacco grey ink that is really generous and fluid:

Dear Cyrille,

Happy Birthday! May you enjoy your latest acquisition (James Dean) in good health! Can you tell me about the writing characteristics of the Marine Blue ink that you used in your writing sample??

Dear Cyrille,

Even if I don't have the Petrol blue the color seems really close. The ink seems really generous and fluid and I don't know if it is the ink and/or the nib but my James Dean should be a fine nib and in my samples the result seems the same than a medium nib. I will see with another ink when I will have empty it to verify if it is the nib or the ink. Related to the flagrance I don't find it is marine perfume but more something like eau de Cologne. The ink doesn't seem having shading effect on the writing result.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch und alles Gute :-)

Nice Dean!

I like the Marine Blue a lot as well. Very good flow; it's the ink. The fragrance really reminds one of marine themed eau de cologne.

The color is much different from Petrol Blue; Marine is darker, less saturated, more like a really dark blue-black-grey. Petrol Blue is more intense and more like a dark turquoise blue color.

Enjoy in good health

Cheers

Michael

I add the photo already published on an other post my last buy, the limited edition of the Writers Edition Kipling. The thing I love the most on this pen is the top cap snow flake in mother-of-pearl so big and beautiful with red/coral color around. At the beginning I didn't want to buy it but when I saw it in real I couldn't resist to the skeleton patterns on the cap and the cap top. There is still the wolf head I don't like, it is too big for me but I can live with it :)

I hope you will enjoy the photos and the quality is not too bad. It was the first limited edition from Montblanc I wanted to buy and it was the first I bought when I had the money for. I like very much the Skeleton version of the Atelier Privé 74 edition but not in my means.

very nice pictures!

~ Cyrille:

Your excellent close-up images bring out details of the Limited Edition 1901 Walt Disney fountain pen.

Thanks especially for the cap and nib images, which satisfy my curiosity.

This very special pen will bring much writing pleasure in the years to come.

Congratulations!

Tom K.

Finally the new pen has been bought and delivered in 2020 so it is the first pen of the new year 2020 :)

It is the Great Characters Alfred Hitchcock to fill in the series and as I'm fan of the film-maker and master of thriller and horror I'm really happy to welcome it in my collection. The pen has been launched in 2011 with a nice vertigo effect on the lacquered barrel and 925 Sterling Silver fittings. On the 18k solid gold is engraved the self-portrait of Hitchcock drawn with only 8 lines.

CONGRATULATIONS!

What a worthy addition to your collection.

As I have a bottle of Alfred Hitchcock ink, there is a faint connection.

What a splendid way to begin 2020!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
