Lamy 2000 Leak At Section

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have a new lamy 2000 and I have not used it at all much. I noticed when I was changing ink that it was expelling ink from the seam at the section. After inking up I noticed slight leakage from this part of the pen. What should I do? It is certainly new enough to send back, but is there a simpler fix? I have unscrewed the section and the barrel. It is a little scratchy to screw in. The tiny ring is there so that seems fine. Would silicone grease be a solution?

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. No the o ring is in place. I wonder if it isn't screwed of tight enough. I will try and tighten it. But I am hesitant to do it too tightly.

Unless it's really loose I would think that would not be an issue. I've got mine right here. The presence of the O ring shouldn't make a difference either.

I wouldn't advise making it too tight just in case, but tightening it up to as shown will be ok.

Did you fill it by inserting nib in the ink or did you fill it up via syringe?

If its still in guarantee - send it back, and stop fiddling with it or they'll say they warranty is no longer valid.

Every so often you get a dud - and part of what your payimg for when buying a new pen is the guarantee.

I've sent pens and refill back that have been faulty. Let the seller worry about the quality of what their selling rahte rthna you worry about whether your fix is good enough. Believe me, it is a much more relaxing way.

Life time for Lamy if sent to the factory....but send it back to where you bought it.

There is a subforum specifically for discussion of Lamy pens. Maybe you ought to post your question there.

If it is new: Back to the shop. Don't meddle with it yourself and loose your warranty.

Hello KZ,

I know what you mean about screwing on the section... it sounds like your grinding glass, but I think that's where your trouble may be... you have to make sure that gap is seamless and that the metal ring is correctly seated INSIDE the section with the gap at the bottom.

I have seen the threaded nipple crack, but that's unusual. As others have said, if it has a warranty send it back and let LAMY deal with the problem instead of risking voiding the warranty.

Thanks for all the replies. I am very disappointed with the leakage. This was my first upgrade to next level pen which I only got a couple months ago and have only used very lightly out of deference!

I would post a photo of the leak but I don't know how to!

I have decided to send it back to Lamy. I started by filling in an online query on their website. Any idea how long they take to respond to these forms?

Anthony,

What do you mean by inside the section? And downwards? Is that the little gap? Must that be "furthest" from the nib? Sorry for the newbie questions.

Hi, I have decided to send to back to Lamy. I filled in the online query form a few days ago. Any idea how long it takes for them to respond? Bit frustrated and disappointed!

Thanks

Double post in two different forums. I've merged them to avoid confusion and fragmented supplies.

They are not reputed to be fast....how ever they are free. So you get what you pay for...fixed for free.

You do have to realize, the workers have two 3 week vacations a year....so it will be done. I even know where in the building it will be done. I took a newspaper won, factory tour coming on four years ago.

The 2000's and other gold nibbed pens are in the old fashioned part of the factory, and all but two distant workers were gone to 09:00 breakfast break....so not to have tourists hanging around the gold.

I have this problem also. I take it apart to lubricate - it needs it all too often. If I don't tighten it perfectly and make sure the tabbed spring is seated perfectly, it leaks at the seam. I always worry about tightening it too much because it can be very difficult to separate. I think getting it just right is a learning curve thing. Brian Goulet has a really good video on the lubricating needs and methods for the 2000 over at the Goulet Pens YouTube channel.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
