Hello Friends!

 

I have very recently caught the fountain pen bug and it has hit me hard. I am now very much obsessed. In my short time as a collector I have browsed this forum repeatedly for much insight and knowledge and for that I thank you all!

My aim is not only to experience the world of fountain pens for myself, but also to open the world of fine writing to many of my collegiate peers who have grown in an age where writing is seemingly optional.

I would love to hear any advice you have for a relatively new FP lover like me, and I can't wait to get to know you all going forwards!

The Jinhao x450 fountain pen is a good-looking pen. After an initial flush cleaning, it should function very well. Mine do. I suggest that you carry one with you, for lending and protecting your treasures.

Jinhao x450 available on Ebay under $3 .

 

I have one as a "loaner" pen, and I enjoy using it myself.

Great advice! Yes, my biggest nightmare would be seeing someone treat a borrowed fountain pen like a ballpen unknowingly... but alas that seems to happen very often from what I have heard. And a Jinhao x450 does seem like it would fit that loaner pen role perfectly.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
