Vintage 1940's Blue Black & Green Quink V Modern

Have done a comparison between modern Quink Blue Black & Green with the 1940's Quink Blue Black & Green

Personally I prefer the 1940's Quink as the modern Quink seems rather brash, in your face and loud a bit like life today :lticaptd:

I have also posted this in the Parker thread, this being where I had started the original topic about my wonderful find of 12 Parker Vintage inks. However now having familiarised myself a little more with the various threads, I realise I should have perhaps posted it here  ... Please forgive a newbie just learning the forum etiquette

Nice comparison! I haven't seen Parker Quink Green for sale on this side of the pond. :(

Have you considered the possibility that some of the difference between the way the inks look could be because you are using different pens? Many times the same ink will look totally different using a dry fine nib in comparison to a wet medium nib.

I managed to find the modern green Quink on the Amazon US website it worked out about three times the price though .. :(

That's a good point :) however I tried all the inks in all my pens just because of that very reason. That's why it took me a little while from receiving the vintage inks to doing the comparison as I wanted to make sure that the nibs didn't make a difference in the colour.

I tried the vintage green in my 51 broad nib it was thicker & wetter but when it dried (which is exceptionally quick) There was no difference in the colour between that and my fine 51.

Goodness that is a difference. If the colors I am seeing on my screen are accurate the modern quink BB is more turquoise than blue black!

I'm with you in preferring the old. I like to look at turquoise inks, but I wouldn't commonly write with them. I'm a die hard old school BB fan.

I recently sold my 1940's bottle of Parker Quink green. I thought it was so muted as to be faded from years and sun. But your results look fairly close to what I saw. Glad to know it was probably OK.

Parker new inks must surely contain different ingredients due to safety and legislation. I wonder if the old Solv X made any difference to the colour? Also permanent ink compared with washable ink can have an effect on the colour.

Interesting to see the difference. Along with Chrissy, I'd hypothesize that the Solv-X made a difference, though I agree the dyes have likely changed. Even though I prefer the more vibrant colors, Solv-X is amazing for removing stains.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
