Just Saying Hi

Hello everyone

As a fellow fountain pen enthusiast, I have been following the FPN for a while now (without my own account) and like reading reviews and discussions about fountain pens here. I am a beginner fountain pen enthusiast (although I have a lot of experience with Indian and Chinese fountain pens). When I say experience, what I mean is that when we were in school, there was a rule that everyone has to use a fountain pen to write their notes and homework. This ultimately meant that I have played around a lot with fountain pens and different kinds of available inks. However, I don't have too much of a formal education ( :D) in the ins and outs of a fountain pen). I have a weird obsession with particular metals like titanium and sterling silver and have been on the lookout for fountain pens with titanium or solid silver body. I am also very fond of the different patterns and inscriptions in a fountain pen nib.

I hope that everyone would start realizing the beauty of a fountain pen and the fun of writing with it.

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. Just some more random stuffs about me. I recently bought a Waldman Edelfeder and Pilot Custom Heritage 91 (was on a good deal on amazon). My current favorite pens are Platinum #3776 Century Fine, Lamy CP1 Titanium Extra Fine, Sheaffer Prelude Fine, and a Muji Aluminum. RIght now, my goal is to collect one pen (probably a good one though) from each brand that makes fountain pens, just for the sake of it.

Welcome !

Which titanium pens do you have ? Seems that this very hard metal would be difficult and expensive to use. However. it should last forever !

Hi Sasha Royale, currently, the only titanium pen I own is the Lamy CP1 Titanium (I don't know for sure if it's titanium, steel with titanium finish or al with black/titanium finish). According to jetpens, the body is titanium though. Have been on the lookout for more, but as you have noted, titanium pens are expensive and I recently poured my savings into getting the Waldman Edelfeder and a Pilot Custom Heritage 91. I did come across other solid titanium pens, will probably try them in the future.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town (South Africa).

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
