Vac Mini Blind/filler Cap

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered already. Last night, while I was filling my Vac Mini (less than a month old to me), the blind/end/filler cap came unscrewed from the filler rod. It threads back on just fine, but it comes off super easily now. I'd like to prevent this from becoming a recurring issue. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get the cap to stay on the rod?

Thanks,

-- Stephen

not sure if OP was referring to the same issue.

i have 2 vac minis one with an end cap that is loose, everytime i twist it to connect both chambers it falls out so easily. i have to re-tighten it and then withdrawal the plunger. this is extremely annoying. the other vac mini works fine though

Use teflon tape that plumber uses to tighten the end cap to the plunger rod and it should not unscrew easily.

My blind cap came off on my first use.

Here is how I fixed it.

There are four pieces involved:

  1. the plunger rod,
  2. the plastic cap,
  3. a big nut
  4. a small nut.

With the blind cap off of the pen, if you look into the cap you will notice a metal nut with a groove for a flathead screwdriver. That's the big nut. That nut is threaded into the plastic cap and can be removed. Be careful, the small nut is loose above it.

That smaller nut is what threads onto the rod and has come loose, allowing the cap to come off of the rod.

Once you've removed the large nut from the cap, place the large nut over the end of the rod first, noting that it doesn't thread on, it just sits around the rod. Then screw the smaller nut onto the rod. The smaller nut holds the big nut on the rod but allows the rod to rotate independently of the big nut. Now, using a small screwdriver to catch the flathead groove, thread the cap back onto the large nut, and you're done and fixed.

Thank You Timtro... I wasn't able to fix it.. I nearly crack the blind cap trying...

One thing I don't understand is: After I place the big nut sitting around the rod, and then I screw the small nut onto the rod... How do I put it all the stuff back into the blind cap...?

At the beggining of all I used a flathead screwdriver to unscrew the big nut, but now I can't use it to put it back, because the rod is into this big nut...

Sorry for my English.

Thanks in advance!

Hi mickeith,

Your English is just fine! And you're not bothering me.

If I understand correctly, your question is how to tighten the big nut into the cap once the rod is in place. I use a very small flathead screwdriver (the type that comes with repair kits for eye-glasses) on just one side of the nut. The trick is to hold the nut fixed and twist the blind cap to tighten. I hold the screwdriver and rod/pen fixed in one hand while using the other hand to twist the blind cap.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
