New Old Parker Quink

Hi everyone,

Well have just manage to get my hands on some new old stock Parker Quink, it consists of eight blue black, one black and three green.

however I was just wondering why the blue blacks are in different coloured boxes as four are in the lighter blue box and four are in what I would consider to be the more blue black box colour?. Am I right in thinking they all are from around the 1940's?

I am about to do a comparison with all the vintage colours against the up to date colours, I am particularly interested in the green😀post-135164-0-12494800-1489078597_thumb.jpg

I can't help you with the green -- I've never seen that color box. Are they all "Permanent Blue-Black" or are some of them listed as being "Washable"?

If the bottles are all shaped like the one in the photo, though, then yes, they're probably from the 1940s (I have a couple of bottles of Microfilm Black that look like that -- apparently used for writing letters to servicemen, during the War and then photographed onto microfilm to send to the troops).

Nice haul, BTW -- I was in an antiques store northeast of me last year, and the woman had a complete case of bottles of Blue-Black only *every* bottle was completely empty. She said that she'd bought it with the box completely sealed (and I think she was a little unhappy -- she wondered if somehow it was a bad batch of bottles/caps). I bought 3 bottles of other colors, and she gave me a partially full bottle of Blue-Black (separate from what was in the case) for free, saying she couldn't sell it that way.

As long as there isn't any SITB in the bottles, they should be fine to use (although I have one bottle of Microfilm Black that I think may have been reconstituted at some point, because it's not black so much as a blue-black -- it's still perfectly useable, but the color surprised me a bit...).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Thanks for your help :) the blueblack all say permanent, the inside flaps of the lighter blue black box mention the Parker blue diamond chip, which the darker ones don't. The green is washable but the black just says permanent black (is that different from the microfilm black?).

So far from the testing I have done it seems the blue black is very similar to today's blue black whereas the vintage green is a lighter shade compared with the more modern green which is almost a green black.

I will post pictures tomorrow taken under natural light.. thanks once again :)

Nice find and keep hunting for more.

I'm still looking for more to fill out my display. I will have to find a display with a spot for red ink. If I do that then I will need more ink. They are all full bottles.http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f239/Jotteraddict62/001_zpsniaprg2c.jpg

Have done a comparison between modern Quink Blue Black & Green with the 1940's Quink Blue Black & Green

Personally I prefer the 1940's Quink as the modern Quink seems rather brash, in your face and loud a bit like life today :lticaptd:

I will also re post this in inky thoughts as I wasn't sure which thread to put it in

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
