Greetings From Indonesia

Hello everyone. I'm glad to be able to be part of this forum. Feel free to call me Salmon.

I'm still a college student studying Journalism and have been a long fan of all things stationery. I like handwriting and I pay so much attention to the pen I'm using. I stumbled upon fountain pen and started taking interest in it.

The first one I bought was Pilot Metropolitan along with its black ink. Perhaps it's because of the ink that even the fine nib became too thick for me. I didn't use it much at the time. I decided to go for Pilot Penmanship with its extra fine nib. I also bought Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-Kai. So far, the combination is my favorite because my handwriting is really small. I filled the ink to my Metropolitan and I started to like it too.

It's pretty difficult to get fountain pens in Indonesia, especially the inks. Occassionally I spotted Lamy, Pilot, Sheaffer, and Montblanc in the book stores but most of them are beyond my budget.

Whenever I looked for something related to fountain pen, the search engine would always lead me here so I hope I can learn more stuff. Thank you.

Welcome, Salmon !

I have never owned a Pilot Penmanship. Do you like the Pilot Penmanship pen better than the Metropolitan ?

Thank you very much for the warm welcome everyone. I'll be sure to enjoy my stay here :)

Hello Sasha! So far, yes, I use Penmanship more than the Metropolitan one because it has finer nib (it's extra fine actually). But Metropolitan has smoother nib while Penmanship can be really scratchy.

Hello Edelstein! Yes I already joined the Facebook group, though too bad I just found out about the Pilot Pens event. But still, I can't believe I could get my hands on Iroshizuku because of them! Loving my Shin-Kai until now. Of course, I'll be sure to attend the next pen meet. Thank you for your information!

Hello and welcome to FPN.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
