New Guy From Massachusetts

Hello FPN!

I have recently re-discovered my love of Fountain Pens. And, every time I google for an answer to my questions, I end up here.

Thanks to FPN ~ I now know (for the first time, actually) the name of my S.T.Dupont pen.

"La Plume Ultime" - Ocean

I purchased this pen in Boston, MA during the mid 1980's. It writes like a dream after 20 or so years neglected. 3 days of soaking the nib in distilled water made it work like new. (thanks FPN ~ advice I gained from this wonderful forum.)

Here it is:

Thanks FPN.

[i just dropped some $ on an M805...thanks???...!!!]

Eric

Great. That is one of my favorite models and is also called a standard size Gatsby.

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell.

Wow, Thank You; my new found enablers!

I have belonged to watch, knife, cigar, and MTB forums. This is the best welcome ever!

Thanks - nice to wake up and see 10 folks rolling out the carpet. My day has been made and I haven't done a damn thing yet!

Here is my entire existing collection. I only owned 2 other fountains - both STDupont. A Montparnasse small in gold (It felt like Gold Plated Plastic) that I gave away, and a Montparnasse large in dark green with gold trim that I can't find anywhere.

Going to give this old MB a try - just dropped the nib into some distilled.

Thanks y'all, You seem like a great group.

I'm going to hide my wallet now.

Greetings!

:W2FPN:

...The history, culture and sophistication; the rich, aesthetic beauty; the indulgent, ritualistic sensations of unscrewing the cap and filling from a bottle of ink; the ambient scratch of the ink-stained nib on fine paper; A noble instrument, descendant from a line of ever-refined tools, and the luster of writing,
with a charge from over several millennia of continuing the art of recording man's life.

Welcome !

The M805 is a wonderful pen. The Montblanc needs none of my praise. However, do not again neglect

"La Plume Ultime" - Ocean, after so much work. If you are not going to use a pen for a couple of weeks, empty it and flush the entire system, until the discharge is clear. Dried ink is an enemy that can ruin your fountain pen. Dry inside and outside before storing.

You have several valuable fountain pens. Treat them as valuables.

Got it.

Thanks Ancient Artifact...lesson learned.

I don't think that the Parker will be in writing condition again because of neglect. It is now an ancient artifact of my college days - I vividly recall taking notes with that pen. Loved it.

The M805 that I ordered is the demonstrator. (I know.)

The next pen on my list is the Duofold Prestige in Blue Chevron. (I know.)

What a wonderful greeting from FPN ~ see you on "the boards"

Thank You All,

Eric

Hello, Eric, and welcome to the Fountain Pen Network. Glad you have joined us. You, having joined us, make us better. This is now your place as much as it is ours. Please don't be shy. Ask all the questions you have and don't hesitate to state your opinions. I hope you enjoy your time here. I also hope "hiding your wallet" works for you. It doesn't for most of the rest of us.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
