Hey there folks, new user here from Hawaii. So many tests are coming up in a few months and I've been thinking of transitioning to fountain pens. Last year I did all my written tests in ballpoint and I must say it really does make your hands sore. Reading up a bit on fountain pens it would seem the ability to write smoothly without applying any pressure would be great for me. And the hobby does look fun.

Welcome !

 

I think you have hit a "bullseye" on using a fountain pen in school. High school or college ?

I used an inexpensive fountain pen through four years of university. Hand cramping was an ever-present concern. The taking notes with long-winded professors was a day-long ordeal. An handwritten exam, at the END of the day would have been disaster, without my fountain pen.

 

I recommend a cartridge-feed fountain pen. It is reliable and easy to maintain (clean). The transparent

cartridges show remaining ink supply, at a glance, and ink reload is fast, and clean. The empty cartridges can be refilled, using a syringe, six or more times. Cartridges, including refilled ones, can be carried safely in a metal candy tin.

Are you in high school, UH or one of the other colleges?

 

You might consider writing your exams/tests with a SOFT pencil.

That is what I used in most of my college exams.

 

And a tip from an old college grader, printing is a LOT easier for the grader to read than script/cursive. And if the grader can read your answer, you may get more partial credit points than if the grader could not. Yes, I gave students 0-ZERO on a question, because I could not read their answer.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
