Pink Ink Suggestions? (And A Possible Swap)

goodpens

Recommended Posts

Hi. I have been knitting a lot of pink pussyhats lately. I am writing tags and letters to include in the packages. Unfortunately, I don't have any pink inks, just pink rollerballs and ballpoints or purple and berry-colored FP inks.

What is a good pink for letter writing? I would like it to be saturated and high contrast, not pale or hard to read and ideally not eye-searingly bright, either. A true pink (not too purple or red or peachy) is what I have in mind.

Thank you for suggestions!

Additionally, if someone has one to recommend and you have enough of it to share (a full sample vial or the dregs of a bottle or maybe some you don't like but that would meet my needs) and are willing to send it to me, I would send you a hand-knit pink pussyhat (pale pink, hot pink, or striped acrylic). If so, please PM me and we can arrange details. I'd enjoy sharing a hat with someone who would wear it; a trade like this would help me put together some beautiful packages.

[Edited to add: I have had two FPN members offer up ink for hats. Though I'd love to try every color suggested here, I think I will be well stocked once their packages arrive. I don't *need* more, but if you are trying to track down a hat, please still feel free to send me a message, since I am knitting until I run out of yarn. We can work something out.]

I have tried many hot pinks and liked most of them: Noodler's Atlantic Salmon, Noodler's Ranchimaninoff (waterproof), Diamine's Cerise, Diamine's Scarlet. They are quite retina-searing unfortunately, especially Ranchimaninoff. The perfect pink for pussyhats, in my opinion, is Noodler's Suffragist Carmine (https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/313736-noodlers-suffragist-carmine-exclusive/), but it's an exclusive. You should check out the review nonetheless as it includes many other pinks for comparison.

While I adore Suffragist Carmine, for many reasons, it is not easy to find and not what I would suggest as a start.

Head over to the pink sample thread in the signature line below and then check out reviews. Before buying bottles, buy samples.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My first thought was Noodler's Rachmaninov. I'd describe as a cross between hot pink and bubble gum. Very advanced ink, however. I traded it away after not even a full C/C worth's of use. Was very, very difficult ink even with added lube and water.

That being said, darn unique looking ink. And very pink. Retina-searing.

Pelikan 4001 Pink is a nice, full-bodied pink, bright without being eye-searing, offers a bit of shading. The color strikes me as slightly 'cool', as if it has the teensiest hint of blue in it, but that may just be my imagination. Only comes in cartridge, though.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Monteverde Valentine Red might suit you well. In person, it is a medium pink, no retina searing.

Here's a swab sample I made at the LA Pen Show last week.

Great feedback, everyone. Thank you! I'd had some of the softer shades (such as Diamine Carnation, Pelikan 4001 pink) in mind, but it turns out that I really like some of those amazingly bright ones, too (such as Noodler's Rachmaninoff and Atlantic Salmon). Looks like I have some sampling to do ...

I have some great pink inks and would be glad to trade several vials for a hat that I would be proud to wear!

My favourite pink inks aren't easy to obtain. They are Montblanc Pink ink and Caran d'Ache Sunset. Montblanc pink is probably slightly more available on ebay, or may even still be around in some boutiques. It has lovely shading.

Another good one, that may still be found is Pelikan Edelstein Turmaline. :)

I have samples of a couple of pinks. One is DeAtramentis Cherry Blossom and DeAtramentis Goat. I have large enough samples that I could share a few ml if you are interested. I have had them for several months and only inked a pen in each once or twice and my sample was about 8-10 ml.

Post #7 is the Cherry Blossom

I hate pink but Fuyu Gaki is kinda pink and looks stupendous. I keep telling myself it's orange.

Diamine Hope Pink, a nice solid mid-range pink, on the cool side. Unfortunately I just gave my bottle away but it's easy to find and reasonably priced last time I looked.

Thanks Stonezebra and pseudo88. This list is getting long and good. I don't think I realized there were so many options.

+1 for Edelstein Turmaline. I bought a bottle for my wife and we liked it so much I bought another one.

Another pink for you to consider: Sailor Jentle "Four Seasons" Sakura-Mori (cherry blossom forest?) is a pastel pink, but not too pastel.

Has anyone mentioned Pilot's Kosumosu (Fall Cherry Blossom) (light to med pink) or Tsutsuji (Azalea) (darker with a little more blue)? Big bottles are not cheap but the mini-bottles might suit.

Thanks! A sample of Kosumosu is on its way to me from a generous donor. I'll check into Tsutsuji.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
