Hi folks, I'm a bit of a collector but more honestly a hoarder of all things that fascinate me, that includes pens, tools, knives, pocket calculators and torches. My background is product development which I suppose is where the affinity to pens grew, both from the user perspective and the appreciation of their design and intrinsic beauty. After lurking for a while I noticed their are other people similarly afflicted with same 'gene' as myself, to that end I've signed up to be amongst fellow sufferers!

Welcome, John !

 

I am fascinated by the innovative engineering that goes into solving problems of daily life. Hence, I am enthusiastic about revolver handguns, and the genius of controlling ink flow without moving parts.

 

Which fountain pen(s) do you use ?

Welcome John

 

It is hoarding of junk only until you bring order to the heap, at which point it becomes a valuable and desirable collection.

 

So on that basis, why confine the heap to one room, when you can have a collection of pens on display in the lounge, a collection of watches in the study, pen knives displayed on the staircase etc ;-)

Hi John, I'm just a bit further up the Wear, in Durham.

 

Welcome to FPN, where everyone both understands and empathises with anyone that might previously have thought that they were a bit odd for liking fountain pens. In fact, in this little haven of sanity, we don't understand why anyone would NOT like those quirky little things that stain your fingers and leak in your shirt pocket!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
