Wow - what a great way to collect writing samples in clear and elegant way. Brilliant.

Moonstone and Olivine are calling my name. Apart from them I wouldn't mind trying Scotch Brown and Charoritr. Do you think you could make a close-ups? Let's say divide the page into three segments and paste them?

@edit - obviously not. You've written it was from facebook. My mistake to ask you for it.

Fireopal is indeed a great ink. I plan on buying a bottle of that one eventually. I enjoyed my sample of Olivine, too.

Apologies for the less than clear photo. This is on cheap paper (US 20 cents per notebook). Mv Blue-Black R2 does not have a lot of blue, a far cry from the Goulet swab I saw. Ruby does have more orange than retailer swabs suggest.. My old bottle of Super Quink Perm. Blue-Black with Solv-X that I thought lost much of its original colour is way blue-r than this. Please don't hesitate to ask questions!

nb. Mv Burgundy is the original formulation.

Hero #232 Blue-Black is my Waterman Florida Blue.

Your Kilometrage May Vary (#ykmv), a Philippine blawg about ink and fountain pens.

I'm presuming that Monteverde Turquoise is the same as Caribbean Blue? I ask because I order the latter but it's come labelled as Turquoise. Sadly my Emerald Green leaked in transit and lost about a third of the bottle. :(

One more Monteverde ink I forgot to list here. I was PIF-ed a bottle of Canyon Rust at the show.

Canyon Rust is NICE! It reminds me strongly of Diamine Ancient Copper but as I haven't my pen with that ink handy right now, I cannot be completely certain if they are a close match or not.

Is there any sheen?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
