Onoto Winston Churchill Chartwell

Sherwood Forester

Recommended Posts

I thought my wish had been granted. Someone had one of these pens to sell but very disappointingly changed his mind when I offered to buy it. So I am having to post again.

Does anyone have one of these gorgeous silver pens which he or she would be prepared to sell to a new owner?

I don't.

But these people do: https://www.lacouronneducomte.nl/webstore/main/onoto-winston-churchill-chartwell-fountain-p-3451.html?language=en

Possibly not the price you're looking for, though. Looks as if they are not stinting on their mark-up.

Regards,

Richard

Hello Richard

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. I apologise for my rather tardy reply. I do not have a mobile phone and I do not check my computer every day.

La Couronne do indeed have a silver Churchill Chartwell for sale. Unfortunately for me (or perhaps fortunately in this case) the example on offer is one of the second edition which is slightly different to the original production of 200. I am looking for one of that first batch which has an impression taken from WSC's signet ring on the end of the cap. I remain hopeful that one will turn up . . . eventually (sigh)

Once again, I thank you for trying to help.

All the best and happy writing,

Alan

My search is at an end. Thanks to Kevin I am now the delighted owner of ONOTO Winston Churchill sterling silver Chartwell No. 006 / 200

What a beauty.

The broad nib is excellent but now I shall consider having it modified to an italic or oblique to find out for myself the joy of line width variation.

Which option would be better, I wonder? Any suggestions from the experienced and knowledgeable FPN community?

I love oblique italic nibs but it might be worth your while trying such a nib on a less expensive pen before you have something irreversible to your Onoto.

I don't know where you live but if you can wait, and are within striking distance of a pen show, you would learn a lot from taking to a nib expert. If you are in the UK, some time spent with John Sorowka is never wasted.

Cheers,

David.

Now that i have returned to the forum i see that your user name gives a big geographical clue.

There is a pen show in Lichfield on June 25th. I can highly recommend the services of John Sorowka. He could let you try oblique nibs before you make your final decision.

Thank you, Gasman. Yes, my pseudonym is a proper clue to my location. Hence the green type, too!

Good advice, thank you. I shall take note of it.

Interestingly, ONOTO use John for their nib work and he was recommended to me by James Boddy, the head of the company.

All the best

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
