Orange Zest - Robert Oster

Robert Oster is new player in fountain pen ink market. He operates through ebay shop. The inks are sold in 50 ml PET bottles with a tightly secure twist cap. I don't know who makes the inks for the shop, but the colors look interesting and fresh. At the moment Robert Oster inks are available in billion colors - I lost track how many.

Sample of Orange Zest was given to me by Nikaa. I remember the ink performed very well in her Sailor 1911 nib and I expected the same in my pens. The ink delivered. It flows nicely and is quite vibrant. Drying time is reasonable and the feel, even in finer nibs, is pleasant. I haven't observed any unproper behavior. It just didn't like water, that's all.

Excellent review, Vis! Robert Oster has become one of my favorite brands of ink. I'm not a huge orange fan but I do like this one...right up BarkingPigs alley, I'd say. What say you, Jack?

Thank you. I love this one; it's just muted enough to look distinguished yet keep its vibrancy. I'm off to buy a bottle.

ETA: I see no Oster inks available on eBay at the moment.

Amazing review, thank you. I am reminded of KWZI Grapefruit which is similarly vibrant and glorious.

Perhaps because they are readily available in the US from Vanness, Anderson Pens, and Goulet. I don't know about EU availability in a shop, online or otherwise.

The BP thinks it reminds him of the previously mentioned KWZ's "Grapefruit," which while both are beautiful inks, both are far leaning reds to be up my "Orange Alley."

I DO know that "HalloweenHJB" should be "driving toward that alley, if not already stopped, shopped & home again!" I have never really loved "Yu Yake," as much as others do, for the same reasons. Sometimes I fear I loved the "smaller" boxes of Crayolas MORE than the 164 sized box!

As far as I know for EU they are available at Appelboom (the Netherlands), Sakura Pen Gallery (Belgium) and (soon-not-EU-anymore) Bureau Direct (UK).

They're not on eBay because they're at those retailers? I don't understand, but thank you.

He has since decided to be a wholesaler I think, which is why he is no longer putting them up on ebay for sale.

Thank, vis. This is a very nice color which does seem similar to Grapefruit, except this has nice shading where I get none with Grapefruit, that might be my pen, though, Vector medium.

Did you notice any sheen with this? Grapefruit is super shiny, like enamel paint.

Great review, this reminds me of the first version of Edelstein Mandarin, which I really like.

I love this ink and find myself using it all the time with a Pelikan broad italic nib. Haven't noticed anything in the way of sheen, but it shades beautifully. Highly recommended!!

It's a bright and cheerful color. Thank you for sharing!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Usually average. They're not most lubricated inks on the market. Orange Zest though gives pleasant feel.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
