Pre-La Pen Posse: The Aftermath

I guess we all survived and no one was hurt.

This lived up to the billing as inkamegeddon and one of the livelier Posses.

Most people came for the first crack at the stuff Straits Pens from Singapore brought before we all head to the LA Pen Show later this week.

This is what we came for.

There were so many people that it almost became standing room nly and the poor servers had to break out the carts to hold all of the drinks. A Pen Posse first.

Farmboy didn't care and just worked on people's pens as always.

Once people finished eating, the stuff came out.

The main event was the 69 bottles of Kingdom Note inks. I ended up coming with a NFL draft style system to make it fair for everyone. We drew numbers for each round and people picked an ink as their number was called. We did four rounds of this and it went smoothly. I did have to waive my normal right of first refusal for these inks but everyone got something.

Katherine no. 1 brought extra snacks for us. Ink and pen cookies and bread pudding. Yay!

There was other stuff too. The mythical A3 sized Tomoe River. There were many reams but they were all gone in five minutes.

Haven't watched these clips (watched a couple on FB) -- it's EEK! 5:00 am, and I have to get to bed.

But that first picture reminds me of Gale's coming to Pen Posse. Hahaha.

Anyway, looked like a massively great time. I don't know why Kingdom Note is highly desired (I prefer easily-obtainable inks), but everyone looked very happy. Hooray!

Man, was that a Pen Posse or a Pen Show?

Looks like quite a great time! Thanks for the report and the videos, Ricky. Wish I weren't 2/3 of a continent away.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
