Sheaffer Desk Pen Identification

Help please, I have a Sheaffer desk pen with a stylpoint nib. It's got a screw on plastic "converter" as a fill mechanism. It's push - pull, pulling out the bar sucks ink in, pushing the bar in will expel it. There does not seem to be a possibility of using a cartridge on this pen. I have seen pictures of Skripsert desk pens but they seem to be cartridge only. Nib is steel, looks a little drunken. I've seen references to the Imperial I as having a stylpoint nib but but I haven't seen any examples to compare. Based on the nib, it would seem to date sometime from 1957 to 1963.

Can anyone identify this fill mechanism? Thanks.post-129188-0-11309800-1486859349_thumb.jpgpost-129188-0-98131500-1486859360_thumb.jpgpost-129188-0-89815000-1486859372_thumb.jpgpost-129188-0-63181800-1486859382_thumb.jpg

Touchdown filler?

I haven't seen such a fill machanism on a Sheaffer pen. Does it have a sac? And where axactly is that sac located in the filler? Don't you think it could be the outcome of a custom job on probably a cartridge pen?

Thanks for looking!

No, it does not have a sac. It's hard plastic with inside threading that threads onto the end of the section:post-129188-0-64720700-1486916370_thumb.jpgpost-129188-0-80677500-1486916295_thumb.jpg

It works the same as a syringe, pull out the plunger, ink is sucked into the body. There is enough space in the tail of the desk pen for it to fit with the plunger fully pulled out.post-129188-0-89506600-1486916558_thumb.jpg

It is basically a screw-on converter made of hard plastic. The plastic matches that of the section, it clearly is original to the pen.

Does it fill as it is?

Do you mean fill it without attaching it to the section? I don't think that would work, the opening does not narrow, so I doubt the ink would be held in as in a normal converter.

What I meant to say was, does it fill when it is assembled? Or, does it appear that this pen needs a sac? This pen is reminding me of the mainly plastic touchdown Imperial pens with nibs similar to the nib on this pen. Those imperials need a special sac.

Sorry, yes, it fills, no problems with that, I was concerned there might be leaking but it's fine so far. I think I know the one you are referring to, the Imperial I. Very close except for the touchdown fill. I did not see anything indicating a desk pen version so it's possibly connected.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
