Well That Escalated Quickly...

Well, it took me about two and a half months to go from weighing the merits of the Metropolitan vs. the Safari, to relishing the performance of my Pilot Custom 823, to thinking, "Hmmm, ya know, these Nakayas are *really* nice."

I know the feeling. I've got a quantity problem. By the end of the month I'll own 20 vintage MBs... all in the search for the 2 or 3 I want to keep and use frequently.

I think you're OK though, because I started with more affordable pens and wish I had spent a little more up front to get something with a bit more class.

Took me just over three months :)

Truth be told I wish I had waited longer as I would like a different nib now that I have more experience. But it is a lovely pen!

When July rolls around, please be sure to post a review of whichever David Oscarson you decide to buy.

I plan to live forever. So far, so good.

Ar least you avoided The Pen of the Week in the Mail Club.

The wise pick well in the Pen of the Month Club.

Pen of the quarter is a good club to join....one gets better pens. :)

Each border passed seemed big at the time....some were....the lower borders being the most important. You passed through levels rather fast. B)

Right now I believe I am in need of the local chapter of FPA, I hear they have 12 step program (or is that a 12 pen program?).

It's a 12 inks program. ;)

I had only a Sheaffer No-Nonsense pen, then I bought a black Parker Duofold Centennial fp, an older Prof. gave me his well used Parker 51 fp.

Then a three or four later, I realised that I had close to 450 pens!!!!! How they multiplied, I have no idea!!!!:):)

Brad- welcome to the club.

There was a time when I thought 12 pen would be enough; actually a lot. :lticaptd:

Then there was the only need 10 inks....if that.

Brick Tamland: Yeah, I stabbed a man in the heart.

Ron Burgundy: I saw that. Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident?

Brick Tamland: Yeah, there were horses, and a man on fire, and I killed a guy with a trident.

Took me about two years after receiving my first Nakaya before I went Nakaya crazy. But when the crazy hit, it hit hard. The benefit was the Nakaya Shield -- I'd order a Nakaya and would not buy another pen until the Nakaya was paid for (back then, your credit card wasn't charged until the pen was leaving for the ride to your address). At the time, that was three or four months of no other pen purchases. Once, the Nakaya took six months. And I was fine! Everything worked out!

Now...while Nakaya is my favorite pen (specifically the Piccolo Cigar model), I find that I LOVE the Pilot PO (posting) nib and would like to put one of those in one of my Nakayas. Wow. That would be... wow. Maybe I can get one of my Nakaya nibs filed down and shaped to a PO. Or a reasonable facsimile.

Have fun on your journey!

Yes, I'm saving up for an MB Writer's edition. It will take me at least two years. There again, once I've saved the cash a Nakaya might be bought instead.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
