Thanks in advance for any additional information about this pen and its nib.

P.S. The tines look out of alignment because they are. Adjustment and tuning are pending.

I responded in the stub of the day post, no. But I forgot to add the section looks to be original to the pen.

The nib and section look just like a Balance II nib with section that I got from Peyton Street Pens, except mine is engraved Feather Touch instead of Lifetime. The section looks identical.

My nib is an 18k monotone with a slightly swoop upturn.

Solid color Balance II pens had plain 14K nibs. Marbled Balance II pens had two-tone 18K Feathertouch nibs.

The section was switched with a solid color Balance II. No doubt

Additionally..I have never seen nor do I have any

monotone 18K nibs...Have the entire series and not seen

in catalogs...Perhaps the platinum

mask wore off or was removed. Or???

Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

In summary, the nib is not original to this model. FYI, it fits perfectly in one of my Connaisseurs. So the fact that the section looks like a Balance II section doesn't mean it is one. The nib is clearly not from a Connaisseur. It is less decorated. Any ideas as to the nib's provenance? It doesn't look just like the nibs I have seen on "plain colored" Balance II's in photos.

'Tis original to the Balance II solid color..It does fit the Connaisseurs..NoNosense

other Balance IIhttps://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/247573-shaeffer-balance-ii-nibdoes-it-fit-on-other-pens/?p=2702341

ie Amber..Cobalt..Aspen..et al which use the 18k feather touch

two-tone nibs. I pulled out a solid color Balance II { 871-45} in hunter Green stub..RB set

matches your Balance II solid color nib exactly.

My Balance II (fine) replaced the original nib (medium) in my Connaisseur. The medium Connaisseur nib ended up in a recently acquired NoNonsense pen.

IIRC the nib was NOS, but only TeriM would know for sure.

Thanks Fred and corgicoupe for the additional information. I love swappable nibs (Pelikan, Aurora, Sheaffer)!

Original to the pen or not, the nib looks good in the pen. And the pen looks good with the nib.

My error... the nib is two-toned (in the proper light).

I understand. I was just looking at mine and at first it appeared monotone.

Most of the Bal 2 and Connie nib units we get are not NOS. We have to hazard a guess as to which model they belong.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
