Triumph Nib Removal Tools

SteelePlume

Recommended Posts

I am new to fpn. I am trying to remove a triumph nib from a "1000" vac fill. I have soaked and ultrasoniced and heated it with hair dryer to no avail. Any suggestions? I hear that Fountainbel has a useful tool. Does anyone know where to obtain this or how much it is.

Thanks

Sar

You would need to get the Fountainbel Triumph nib removal tool from Fountainbel. Frances is Fountainbel and he posts here under Fountainbel.

I can't email or mention users in my posts. Help please! I am interested in getting more information on Fountainbel's tools. I enjoy restoring vintage fountains in particular balances and triumphs. I like in particular those that use vac fill.

Thanks

This was probably true !

I did not react since - being nearly 72 - I want to stop making the tools, to much work involved…

I actually prefer working and prototyping new Bulkfillers

That's bad news! This tool is essential to safely removing the nibs from Triumph pens.

My diameter 50mm Ketron Peek bar stock is all gone, so i have to buy new bar stock to make the tools.

This is expensive material from which i have to buy minimal quantity

I could probably make an effort when I could make at least a series of 10- 20 sets of the tools ,

Please confirm when interested.

I believe the disk with the taper could be 3D printed. The metal tangs could be machined or laser cut and ground to thickness.

Francis, would you be willing to share why you make the disk from PEEK as opposed to some other material?

It doesn't flow like a lot of polymers and doesn't mar metal it contacts would be my guess.

Exactly FarmBoy, thanks !

Further on it can withstand high temperatures and will not deform at all.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Having the tool changes the dynamics of repairing the Sheaffer plunger fillers. It really makes it possible to reliably repair these pens. Without them, your chances of getting the nib out without damage are 50% AT BEST. With the tool, you're very close to 100% - reduced only by hidden damage, and operator error trying to get it out too forcefully.

Francis - making this tool available is a great service to the pen community which I very much appreciate. It has lead to the restoration and revival of a pen long considered to be unrepairable.

I would certainly be interested!

And I sure hope you get enough people interested to do one more run.

I am interested. Could you give us an idea how many would need to be ordered and how much they would cost. Frankly I'd love to see a picture of the device :)

Thanks,

Sar

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
