Sailor Family Photos

Hey I love seeing everyone's Sailor family portraits!

I haven't taken much pen photos lately but I have dug up these from my older posts elsewhere on FPN. I have to go and gather up the rest of the Sailor family pens and do some photo sessions.

Beautiful family photos, everyone.

There's still not a photo of Brian Anderson's collection (or did I miss it).

Beautiful family photos, everyone.

There's still not a photo of Brian Anderson's collection (or did I miss it).

I took pictures, just need to edit them. ;) Hopefully this week.

Here's the first grouping, there are two more beyond this. Some very unusual pieces in this lot.

  1. 1940's vintage, bulb style filler, steel nib
  2. Magellan - LE of 150, kind of a blue/purple color
  3. Magellan - Jade
  4. Magellan Lapis FP
  5. Magellan Lapis RB (I have the box for this set - very cool blue felt with curved top)
  6. Pro Gear - Ebonite with Rhodium trim (This is the large Pro Gear with bigger cap)
  7. Pro Gear Mozaic Brown
  8. Pro Gear Mozaic Green
  9. Pro Gear KOP - Nagahara LE of 100 with Nobuyoshi Nagahara's signature on the nib in place of the Sailor logo, and his signature on the cap band, Unusual Nib, marked "NAG" but not identifiable as any regular Nagahara nib, more like Naginata-Togi but not marked that way.
  10. Pro Gear KOP Sky

Brian, your Sailor pen family is amazing and drool worthy! :puddle:

I particularly love the look of your Magellan pens and your KoP Mosaic Green.

Thanks for posting these beautiful photos, Brian. What a remarkable collection! I especially like the Fresca and the Slate Blue which is only available at Anderson Pens. To my eye those are the 2 nicest Sailor resin colors. Thanks again. Enjoy your weekend. Best wishes, Barry

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
