Please Help Me Decide On My Waterman Purchase!

Yes, the caps top plate. Some have it some don't.

YES!!! You've found it! Keen eye for detail my friend! I'd like the W logo instead of the gold circle on top. The waterman.com & amazon.com websites have the W logo pens and most Indian websites including amazon.in have the gold circle on top. A review I read said that the gold circle came off :"(

Oh My! Those are gorgeous! Beautiful collection. Don't sell them off now. You can never have enough Carenes! Are both Fps? One M one F nib? Is that the Expert 1? Drooling....

Lucky you to get a good pen from Amazon UK at a good price! Are you from the UK? I don't think amazon UK would do me any good. The shipping to India might cost me a bit. What's a Sterling post BREXIT? Thanks to your input! Cheers!

Pete :")

I live in Australia and the postage is about 10 Pounds. "Sterling" is is the UK Pound. I use the term because my computer does not have the Pound sign. As for BREXIT......I will let Uncle GOOGLE help you with that :)

Good decision Force! I support it. All that black looks really classy! I see you prefer M nib on your Carenes! Are your letters really big? The Expert in the image is a roller ball? With the cap on, one can't really tell! I thought they stopped production on the Expert II Fps. Then how are you getting a new one?! Glad to meet a Carene collector. Always admired that model from Waterman! Cheers!

Hi Force,

Could you please post a new photograph with just two pens from your black collection? The black lacquer Expert II and the Carene. I'd like to take a look at these. Thanks!

The light is not good now. The FP is due Monday so I will use it together with a brand spanking new unused Carene Black Sea gloss.

It is. I bought a few Carenes of Amazon when on offer.

Did you get them from Amazon.com? Did you get a good deal?

Amazon.co.uk. The pens come from anywhere in Europe. Last ones were Swiss.

Is there a difference in build quality?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
