Repaired Swan Visofil Vt 340/60

Hi guys, just wanted to share with you, some pictures of this recently restored Swan Visofil VT 340/60.

And also I wanted to give a shout out to Eric Wilson (Eckiethump here on FPN) for the wondeful repair work he has done.

I bought the pen a while ago on a Dutch auction site. When I received it, I saw that it was in a bit of a state, and that I didn't knew much about this particular model.

I did notice that it missed 'something' at the end. And after some research (thanks to the excellent articles on Penhero) I saw that it was a Visofil, that has this complicated filling system, and that it is very difficult to repair. So, I sent it to Eric (who replaced missing clips on Swans for me in the past) to see if something could be done. And it could! :))

Eric managed to open the pen, clean it, and fit an original turning knob.

And now I have to say it's one of my favorite pens! The no. 3 nib is very flexible, writes super, and the pen just fills perfectly.

I also like the fact that the Visofil is a bit thicker than the other Swans I own.

So,l there it is! :) Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I've never had a problem contacting, or with the work Eric has done for me.

Hullo Peter,

Yes I was well aware of Eric's reputation, he came very highly recommended indeed - as the work above clearly indicates.

Paul was at the London Pen Show,Eric. I didn't know that you wanted to meet, or I would have pointed him in your direction.

Hi guys,

I’m going to lock this post. Nobody has really followed up the original post about the visofil in question since January. Most of it looks like bickering.

If anyone wants to discuss the beauty of this particular pen or the intricacies of repairing it, let me know and I will unlock it.

I hid some posts. Please PM if there are issues. I believe that the thread is now more relevant to the original post.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
