Wooden Test Tube Holder/fountain Pen Stand

Just thought I'd share a nifty and very inexpensive quality pen stand. This is the Eisco Labs Premium Wooden Test Tub Rack from Amazon. It was about $12. I got a sheet of adhesive-backed felt ($1 at craft store) and cut little strips to fit inside the holes so there wouldn't be any chance of scratching the pens. I then added the little thin round pads in the bottom divot for the bottom of each pen so as not to scratch there either. Total cost was <$15. It holds 6 pens, there is a MB 149, a Scriptorium Pens Zephyr (large size) and ASA Galactic (with flat ends) for scale.

The rack is very well put together considering the price point and with the little felt bits to prevent scratching, makes a great little unique desktop pen stand (especially since some folks prefer vertical vs horizontal stands fWooor FPs).

p.s. For whomever would ask, the last pic shows a close-up shot of the Zephyr, which is made of Lava Mineral Explosion #3 alumilite, I believe.

That would be perfect for displaying favorites.

...The history, culture and sophistication; the rich, aesthetic beauty; the indulgent, ritualistic sensations of unscrewing the cap and filling from a bottle of ink; the ambient scratch of the ink-stained nib on fine paper; A noble instrument, descendant from a line of ever-refined tools, and the luster of writing,
with a charge from over several millennia of continuing the art of recording man's life.

Very cool! I just looked at Amazon ($12.22), and they have larger version (12 holes, $16.88). I think I'll look into this more after I get my office remodeled.

Darn it, you beat me to it :glare: lol.

Considering how pricey pen stands can be, and how great this one looks, it was impossible not to purchase this one.

I love that the test-tube rack isn't incongruent with this modified repurposing, so it adapts seamlessly to fit a professional's office as well as any nerd's desk :P .

I like the creativity with the felt ;)

Edit: I was going to write D O R K ' s desk, but they bleeped out (bleep) lol. I didn't realize that was profanity lol. Quite refined a forum indeed :happyberet: .

There are a few types of wooden stands and I've been drawn to the double layer versions since I've got just enough pens to fill one. Don't worry about the type that has dowels to store the tubes they can be taken off with an exacto blade then a wide drill bit can make a divot for the pen to rest in.

Ls,

Brilliant idea!

I’m looking for a storage solution myself. Pen-case-displays are rather expensive. So, this is a nice alternative. Besides that: you really can show your pens.

I’m now searching for a tube holder made of acryl/plexiglass. Sadly, you must buy a minimum of let’s say 50.

Still looking…..

Greetings

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
