There has been a #40/45 Meisterstück with two cap rings and a round cap top between 1930 and 1934

and

there has been some smaller high top pens up to # 30/35 with a black cap top. Yes.

But finding a #40/45 black cap with a matching high cap top can't be a fake, can it? So this can be on of the holy grail pens and I would have loved to bid on it! I have heard of it but never saw one before.

I don't know if this seller is a member of this board. His listings never seize to amaze me. And the prices never end super high, either.

You've made me easy, Axel, I thought there were some catalog Montblancs I didn't know about. There is always something to learn.Check another ended auction from this seller, what do you say:

Strange, very strange. I don't think that this pen is an original Simplo.

The pen in this latest auction could just be a cool old pen with a Simplo nib in place of the original nib, and the seller thought, because of the marking on the nib that it was an old MB Pen. And, it is a very cool old pen. I l love the material.

However, many of the seller's auctions are "ended early". This is a red flag for me (personally) as an eBay buyer. Ending an auction early could mean a number of things, but when it's repeated behavior on the part of a seller, I become very wary of his auctions.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

If it was for the nib only but , reportedly, there's been a "Simplo pen" imprint on the barrel.

... and why didn't he shows a picture of this imprint on the barrel?

  • 2 months later...

I have near identical pens myself by Simplo and have no doubt of its authenticity.

Would you like to post some pics?!?

The pens are not to hand but you can see an example of a similar pen to mine (marked 'The Chancellor') in this link to Tom Westerich's website. You need to scroll down to Chancellor No 1 pen.

I will post photos of mine when I retrieve them from the vault. Will take time but I will do so in future.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
