Hello I am rather new to vintage pens and I am looking to purchase a Mabie Todd Swan No.2 safety pen C1917

This is the lisiting on ebay:

I was wondering how much these pens usually go for and how much i should bid. I was thinking between 40-70 USD would be reasonable. Thoughts?\

Brian

wrong sub forum but it's alright. Since this is an auction and there is two days left and the recent enthusiasm for ebonite flex pens, this will end up much more expensive than your budget sadly.

Oh I apologize. Which sub forum should I go to? And would you expect this pen to be around 100 USD then?

Goodness me. It's currently at £62. I bought mine for £15.

Brian, as this is about a Mabie Todd pen rather than a review of a pen, I'm moving it to the 'Mabie Todd' forum.

Regards,

Richard

It's £142 now which is absurd for this type of pen, but this seller for some reason always gets very good prices.  Of course as I have written elsewhere, the prices of Swans have really climbed in the past couple of years.  I suppose people have finally begun to realise what superb pens Mabie Todd manufactured!

The final price was £170 ($209). Not bad for a pen that originally cost $2.50.

The tactic seems to be to list a pen for a small price and keep the auction going for a long time - six-to-nine days. People get excited, and impatient.
