Why Are Jinhaos Called Eastvita In The Us?

Do you think it is down to them thinking the pen would not sell with a Chinese name?

I never encountered Jinhaos marketed under this name. What is your source for this information and could it be that Jinhao is producing pens under that "private label" for a US vendor?

I've never seen this either. All Chinese branded fountain pens I've seen sold here in the USA are always Jinhao, Hero, Baoer, Kaigelu, Wing Sung, Yiren.

What it might be, and I've seen this on Amazon sometimes is that the listing for the pen is under the name of the distributor. I found this once, when I bought a pen that was listed as "Lanxivi Bookworm". When I got it, it was actually a Yiren brand pen, Lanxivi is the distributor of the pen. Possible language barrier issue.

yeah, if you look at the detail of the post, the company or Amazon store front that is selling it is called Eastvita...then further down in the description, you'll see it referred to as Jinhao X450. Also, looking at the images, the pen cap band has the Jinhao engraving on it.

Those look like regular X450 pens, certainly nothing "flexy" about those nibs. They do have some give to them for line variation, but not what seasoned fountain pen users would call "flexy" or "flex".

Yeah, Eastvita is just the sales agent or a regional distributor. I've bought Jinhao pens off of Amazon under the "Gullor" brand and another that starts with an L... but they're all Jinhao pens. Amazon can be confusing with their titles.

Hello Helen,

Thanks for this thorough breakdown. :)

I know I got my X-750's under the "Gullor" brand for $17.50, ($4.38 each/4-pack), and it included a leather pen case, felt slips for each pen and 10 ink carts in mixed colors. I bought two 4-packs and was pleased with what I received. :)

Whoa! A Jinhao 599 for $20? Any idea of whether or not they have done anything special to the nibs, like swapped in their own or something? If they've had nibs made up special for their company, then maybe it's not so bad, but the idea of having a special nib made and then sticking it on a Jinhao 599 seems just a bit odd to me.

Out of curiosity I went to their site. How do you know that they have their name stamped in the nibs? I don't see anything about that on their page.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

I imagine it's the same thing as the Goldspot freebie 599 I got at one point when I bought something from them. Translucent pink, cosmetically the same as any other 599, but with "Goldspot" printed on the barrel & stamped with the "G" logo on the nib. Doesn't explain how they got it done, maybe something you can contact Jinhao about, but it means it's not a unique case.

Actually, I've seen a lot of Jinhao x450s/ 750s rebranded by US sellers, usually with a markup in price. "Bulow" pens are a good example of this. They have the same model number, but the engraving is actually done in the Bulow brand name instead of the Jinhao one. Otherwise they are exactly the same thing.

Erofa are another online distributor. I think they, and Lanxivi are Chinese stationary shops that sell through Amazon and eBay and doubtless other outlets. Ultimately it is Jinhao or Fuliwen or whoever that make the pens, and they're the same models as elsewhere regardless of the preceding tag.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
