Well no, actually, you should not :) We don't want to artificially increase prices for our fellow collectors and pen lovers, do we? That chicken's bound to come home to roost.

That seems like a fine deal. What nib did you get? And pictures... we want to see pictures :)

I know it is an old thread, but I just saw that we all "lost money" in our M800 Brown Tortoise. They are dirt cheap at amazon.de: € 8.93 :lticaptd:

https://www.amazon.de/Pelikan-F%C3%BCllfederhalter-Souver%C3%A4n-M800-Tortoise/dp/B00B9K8U2A/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1501634816&sr=8-13&keywords=pelikan+m800

The same scam is going on for many pens. The Waterman Edson was around the same price at amazon uk the other day. If only...

Oh, no. I'm sure it is true. :lticaptd:

Edited to add: The sad thing is that the person running these scams certainly knows quite a bit about FPs. The models chosen (M800 Brown Tortoise, Edson, etc.) are either discontinued or SE/LE from the past and they all are highly prized.

If anyone is interested, I can offer a M800 Old Style tortoise from 1991.

But it's not a bargain. ;)

:puddle: I would be, but for the orders I've already placed... so many pens, so little money leftover

I bought mine on its release a few years ago and still haven't inked it (!), so it's basically NOS. I find the M800 size too big and prefer to use my M600 GOG as my main pen. That said I wouldn't want to sell it. 🙂

So did I. The only difference is, that I inked it the second I got it, and it has been inked ever since. Love the size of that pen.

I don't post much, but just managed to get one of these, albeit a little too early as I am recovering from some other purchases. I must say, I am looking forward to receiving it and inking it up. Thanks to all the posters in this thread for helping me take the plunge.

The way I valued my bid was what a current special edition would cost me (say a Renaissance Brown) plus a premium because I really wanted an M800 in Tortoise and the pen on offer was in my a nib size I was after.

I won't say what my max was, but the underdbider (in USD) was $655, then $539, then $520. I won the auction at $665, which I am quite happy with.

Therefore, I would say the current MV is around $550 to $600. Me (and I suspect the underbidder, but can't say for sure) were ok to pay a bit more because we really wanted it.

You got a really good deal, congrats. I haven't seen one go that cheap in a long time.

I suspect I was watching that same one (out of curiosity re: value, not to buy.) I thought it an excellent price in today's market.

Well done; I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine, they really are a beautiful pen as well as great writers.

Glenn.

That price is incredibly low. M800 red stripes usually sells for more and it's nowhere near as coveted as the brown tortoise finish. Congrats, that was a really good deal!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
