Aloha,

Just moved to Albuquerque. New job has me writing more. I found a cheap zebra FP and it has frustrated me, but opened the door to a whole new world.

I am falling in love and sharing it with the family.

Just ordered a couple of Pilot Kakunos for the kids to use. I am not sure where I should start?

I don't really need flash and bling at work, but smooth consistency.

I want some class like a Waterman expert...

running off to grab a burrito,

peace,

Olomana

Welcome to the FPN.

I think that it is great that you are involving your " Kiddos ", not enough folks used them. Much less get their children started. Really, I love Family Tradition & this a great way to start one!

If there is a Pen Boutique or store fairly close to you then it is a wonderful idea to try out FPs before you purchase.

Enjoy your time here.

If your out-go is more than your income,

Then your up-keep.

May be your Down-falll!!!

Welcome to our little corner of the universe from a pen user in San Diego. Take a look at the Kaigelu 316, it's a very beautiful pen, good writer and a fantastic value.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The kids are excited.

Luckily we have 1 store in town.

OCArt, I will look for that pen and try give a whirl.

I've thrown that zebra POS against the wall again, still hasn't improved it's flow.

Infact it writes better upside down.

Any ideas on how to re-purpose that pen?

tent stake?

Welcome, Olomana !

A good place to start would be your kids' Pilot Kakunos. You have access. Try them. What do you like about them ? What would you change ? The answers will help (you and many helpful members) guide you to a fountain pen that better suits your needs.

What kind of burrito ?

I lived in Santa Fe for about 5 years and enjoyed going to Albuquerque! I purchased a lovely sterling set of Sheaffer's grape ivy pens at an antique store there about 20 years ago. Still have it and enjoy using the set.

Chicken Mole is my favorite, but for now I am trying a the Veggie with beans and rice burrito.

We'll see how long I am Allowed to keep up this new dietary selection.

Think the pens arrive tonight?

There is a vintage pen show in town this weekend.

Am I in trouble?

I am hoping to find an old work horse that'll fit my newbie budget < $45

Welcome from Germany.

You ask if you might be in trouble going to the Vintage pen show.....the minute you registered here you were in trouble. In fact by the way you put your questions and remarks I'd say....you have fallen down the rabbit hole...

Just kidding. Kudos for getting fountain pens for your kids.

Next time...share the burrito...

But what a beautiful specimen from Pelikan.

Guess I'll have to find her matching sibling

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
