Any Others In, Or Around, Charlottesville?

Hi everyone.

I am brand new to fountain pens after receiving one as a gift in December.

I now own four inexpensive pens and a number of ink samples. I'm having

a great time with these pens.

Unfortunately, it looks like pen sellers within an hour of Charlottesville

have all closed down in recent years. I also have yet to meet anyone in

person with the same interest.

I'd really enjoy meeting others in the area. Are any of you nearby?

Hello and welcome to the fountain pen community. I'm Tom, a local grad student.

There used to be an art supplies store that carried fountain pens, but they've since shut down. Now there's a new one called 'The Art Box' by Foods of all Nations. I haven't been yet, but they seem to have Lamy pens and a few different inks.

There's a bigger fountain pen meetup group near Roanoke headed by Chad Trent. I'd be up for a Cville meetup.

Hi, I live in Lynchburg and have been attending the Roanoke Pen Club for several years. You guys now make 3 who are interested in getting together. I know Charlottesville is quite a drive to Roanoke. If one should start up In Charlottesville, I would be interested. Meanwhile if anyone in Charlottesville is interested in meeting me in Lynchburg and riding the rest of the way with me, that would be fine.

Here is a web site for the club: http://cosmoglasswor...anoke-pen-club/

You can contact Chad Trent from that site for further information.

The Roanoke Pen Club has a Google Group which you can join: https://groups.googl...oanoke-pen-club

Or, you can PM me and I'll get back to you quickly.

We are hoping to have a meeting soon, just have to get enough people to commit so we can set a date.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
