Hello From Chico, California

It all started several months ago when I found an old Fountain Pen I bought in Junior College. I had a section of a desk drawer with my favorite pens that have needed refills for years, and this Fountain Pen was one of them. I read closely the inscription and it said "Sheaffer." So I went on Amazon and ordered a variety pack of "Sheaffer Ink Cartridges." My pen is purple so I wanted purple ink for it. I saw all the pretty new expensive Sheaffers on Amazon but none like mine. I wanted to know more about my pen though so I did a Google search on Sheaffer Fountain Pen. I found out it was a Vintage Sheaffer School Fountain Pen. I did another Google search which led me to eBay. I was blown away! I instantly fell in love with the Vintage Sheaffer School Fountain Pens and started buying them just to collect for myself. I had my favorites in a little pencil case. I have about 50 now and more are on their way. I also fell in love with the green ink which is my preferred color ink with which to journal. Now I've done more research on the Sheaffer Fountain Pens and know a lot more than I did before, but I'm still learning and am indeed a beginner. :)

eBay is a nice place to view a variety of pens as well a buy pens. So, if you enjoyed your Google search, you may enjoy exploring pens on eBay too. As long as you do are careful with your seller contact and research, you can make some nice pen friends there as well.

Welcome to FPN! : )

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. Is that first pen rounded on both ends, conical on both ends or flat on both ends?

Welcome !

Unfortunately, there was never a converter for the Sheaffer school pen. However, the cartridges can be refilled, using a syringe, and there is a way to use the abundant International Standard short cartridge.

50 ? The nibs were inscribed with the nib number. How many different nib sizes do you have ?

Photos please.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
