Where Did My Pen Go?

Okay, here's something I've been pondering for a little while. Although I am not really into the whole selling pens game, I have sold a few to fund other purchases, and I have also given away quite a few too.

 

The curious thing is how very rarely these sold/gifted pens appear on FPN in the "look what I received/bought" category, or in the "what am I waiting for in the mail" category.

 

So, here are two questions.

1. Why do my sold/gifted pens never appear here?
2. Is this the same experience others have?

I seldom say or said I was waiting for a pen...(the pen might not be the brag one hopes).....

I did say I got one when it got there.

I've been buying at live auctions lately....so don't have anything 'In the Mail.'

I learned something from a friend of mine years ago. As he handed me a present, he said, "Make a fuss." It's true. I come from stuffy old New England where any show of emotion is interpreted as insincerity. The result is people who give gifts (I'm sorry, I refuse to use "gift" as a verb) and never really know if their offering was well received. The most gracious person I know sits calmly, upon receipt of a gift, and tells me just what she loves about it - then - she follows up about a week or so later and tells me how much she's enjoying it. It's an art, and it's a wonderful way to remember that people who give you a gift have put thought, time and energy into the effort.

For what it's worth:

All the pens that I gave to others here {FPN}..have never appeared here.

 

I'm pleased with this. I receive great pleasure in giving.

 

My personal opinion is I do not want any recognition and glad folks

don't advertise it.

As one who has been the recepient of a pen previously owned by EoC. A Esterbrook LJ Bell Systems pen 2464 nib, am happy to say that it is currently inked with Levenger Amethyst and is used regularly.

I'm sorry. A couple of you are reading way too much into my question. I am not looking for recognition or any kind of announcement.

 

I am simply curious as to where the pens end up. It would seem from my own experience that most of the ones I've let go have gone to people who are not FPN or FPG members, and so, if this is true then it makes me wonder just how large the fountain pen user market really is.

Actually, no.

 

I ship lots of pens, do lots of repairs, and move lots of pens to new owners at club meetings and I have never expected a proclamation on FPN about the transaction.

FarmBoy, I expect nothing. I was curious as to how seldom the pens seem to surface again in our "community". Seems pretty crystal clear to me. If you want to persist in your incorrect assumption of my intent, go right ahead. The thing is there are several very long running threads on the boards where people showcase pens they have acquired or are waiting on. It's entirely reasonable to expect to see familiar pens crop up now and again.

 

I rest my case.

I doubt that most of the pen market is on fpn. Most penowners I meet in the wild are not.

 

I doubt most pen/ink/etc acquisitions are posted.

I don't, and most of the people I know who are also on fpn don't.

I've always celebrated curiosity. In myself and in others.

Perhaps you could send handwritten notes and invite the buyers/recipients to join fpn.

But they might not, or they might not post about the pens.

 

I like to celebrate similarities and differences, Keeps life interesting.

I've wondered the same thing. I generally don't poke the "What are you waiting for in the mail" threads, but I have whenever I've sold a pen, wondering if it was perhaps acquired by someone here. Nothing. The only pen of mine that sold in the FPN Classifieds went to a rather low post count member, so I didn't really expect to see anything about it.
