I Need Help Finding A Specific Nib Assembly In The Us

Greetings everyone, I'm new to the fountain pen world and just joined this forum. I recently purchased a Blackstone Maxim Heavy Metal Pen that was shipped from Australia (I'm not aware of any US dealers). http://justwrite.com.au/fountain-pens/Blackstone-Fountain-Pens/Maxim-Heavy-Metal-Fountain-Pens/copper-fountain-pen

I'd like to get another nib assembly, but don't want to pay the international shipping. Does anyone know if other nib assemblies would be interchangeable? Here's a link to the nib assemblies they sell.

Nib Size: #5 (5mm)

Thanks in advance for any help.

First of all, hello and welcome to FPN.

I think I have some of these, I will look for them this afternoon. It looks like the feeds that come with some of the kit pens.

Did you need a nib with it, or just the feed assembly?

Please visit my store A&D Penworx.

Brands we carry: Benu Pen, Conklin, Kaweco, Monteverde, TWSBI - Diamine, J Herbin, KWZ- Clairefontaine, Field Notes, Rhodia, Whitelines

I have a couple of these pens (prototypes from early development), and think Dave at is right: the feed and assembly "sleeve" aren't the ones you normally get from JoWo;the Bock (or Kaweco or Karas Kustoms) 060 nib assemblies won't fit either. I *think* they're some kind of kit pen assembly, with a JoWo (or other, OEM) nib swapped in.

After further inspection, I do not have the assembly your are looking for. The feeds I have that fit the #5 nibs are different:

It is longer than the one you have. I do have one that looks like yours, but standard #5 Jowo and Bock nibs do not fit that assembly.

Sorry.

I appreciate the help and feedback. So is it safe to say that the only place I can get the needed assemblies with nib is from the original manufacturer? The s&h will be more than the nibs. Thanks for the welcome as well.

A further suggestion or two (well, ok, three):

(1) Why not get in touch with Kevin (the proprietor of JustWrite.com.au) and ask him what kind of assembly units he uses? Otherwise you run the risk of making a mis-identification. He can be slow to reply to emails (I believe he's a "one-man-band" on the retail side of things right now), but I've always found him polite and approachable.

(2) Maybe consider contacting Brian Gray from meisternibs.com? I believe this is Kevin's source of JoWo nibs (not sure where he gets his cheaper "OEM" nibs, though I've been pleasantly surprised by how good they are, if you're happy with a fine-to-medium line). It's *possible" that Brian may be able to help you out both with nibs and a compatible assembly unit.

(3) This is probably the least likely option, but if the above approaches fail, you might want to check out fpnibs.com (for JoWo nibs) or beaufortink.co.uk (for Bock nibs). I know Beaufort sell #5 nib units from Bock that are designed to fit most kit pens - not sure about fpnibs, but it's at least worth sending them an email.

It's a shame that buying from JustWrite isn't an option, but I understand your problem: shipping from the US to Australia has become prohibitively expensive in recent times (not to mention the adverse exchange rate), and our (Australian) shipping rates to the US aren't much better. Don't know how the Europeans (including the UK, at least for now) manage to keep their international postage prices down, but I'm glad that they do!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
