Ghost Plane

Recommended Posts

I recently graduated law school, my graduation gift took a couple months to finally pick out. But today I made the choice and went with this:

Congratulations, on your graduation and your choice.

Hope it serves you well for many years to come.

Enjoy.

Fine choice. Excellent pen and great design mix by Montblanc IMHO. If I may suggest, I would recommend you purchase a small pen sleeve as to not mar the finish of your new pen.

Already in the works, along with a pen roll to carry the rest of my pens.

A montblanc meisterstuck 146 probably from the late 80's (maybe early 90's). i can not be sure. it says W-Germany on the ring, has a serial number, a two tone nib with an ebonite feed and grey ink window (not the striped one). it also does not have the "pix" inside the clip.

I find the nib quite smooth and a very good writer. it is also VERY RIGID. the most rigid nib i have ever wrote with (more rigid than my faber castell loom, which was my most rigid nib before i purchased this montblanc). I would prefer a liitle bounce to the nib to add a liitle charachter on my handwriting, but thats ok.

When I don't have much to look forward to in terms of novelties, I have a tendency to look back :) To 2013 to be specific and this pen that I took home today along with a couple of 'goodies'.

I asked them to order me a BB nib which should be here in 2 weeks or so. Already inked it up with Burgundy Red for the time being.

I did a couple of lines with it just now and 'whoa!' what a nib! Not sure if the Masters for Meisterstuck is a series from a class of its own or I just got really lucky- it is unbelievable. Almost feeling bad that it is to be exchanged eventually.

Congratulations Pravda. The L'Aubrac is a great pen with really good feel in the hand. I am waiting for a used one.. Maybe one with a BB nib. ;)

Good to know on the nib. Can you be specific? Soft, bouncy?

I was eyeing a Firenze recently. The L'Aubrac is sterling silver is it not? Let us know if you climate means it need a regular polish please. The Firenze appealed as it is platinum plated and will not tarnish.

Thanks guys! I am happy you like it. I wasn't 100% decided even until I took it home I had second thoughts, but after my first evening I got enamored by it.

jagwap~ These exactly were the choices I was eyeing recently! And was considering similar reasoning.

Notice how the silver on the L'Aubrac shimmers or shines so much brighter than the platinum. I actually quite liked that. And I thought if it would develop a nice patina, then so be it. It is a 2013 and hasn't yet. Plus it can always be polished easily, like I do with my Martele.

Also figured that the L'Aubrac is becoming harder to find by the day, while the Firenze is a 2017 model and will be around in the boutiques for quite some time. It struck me as 'classy' and well reserved.

The nib is a regular 146 platinum nib. But for some reason this one came perfectly aligned, well tuned and incredibly smooth. Don't recall it being hard as a nail either, but no give like the Heritage series. I thought maybe because it is part of the 'Masters for Meisterstuck' series that the nib meisters may have paid a little more attention to the craftsmanship, who knows?

Pravda, when I see the 2 pens side by side I think I would have chosen the L'Aubrac too.

Agreed, although I prefer the brown leather version to the croc. But also it seems the L'Aubrac comes with a special quality nib.

You've dazzled my eyes!

What a nib!

Thank you so much for the comparison photo.

I knew nothing about Pelikan's Italic Broad nib.

The handwriting sample is compelling.

Much appreciated! Please enjoy your terrific new pen & nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
