Ink No. 184 - Penbbs

visvamitra

Recommended Posts

Penbbs is chinese fountain pen forum. It seems the guys are not only talking about pens but also mixing inks and the moment they've created approximnately 200 inks. Wow. I remember I've seen Lgsoltek reviews of their inks and I had a chance to try opuntia Stricta ink that was rather nice in terms of color and quite plesant to use. Recently I've received samples of few other Penbbs inks.

Ink no. 184 (can someone who knows chinese follow the link and translate it to english?) is well behaved yellow ink. It looks rather nice in broad Kaweco nib and the shading potential is strong. The ink isn't crazy wet but neither it's dry. It's pretty well behaved. I believe the sample came from Lgsoltek - thank you :)

LOL, I just found out Penbbs has just released another set of 10 colours. One of them is called "Ugly", no doubt referring to the colour Pantone named as the world's ugliest colour, which is discussed in this thread: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/309278-dang-this-is-my-favorite-ink-color/

Ugly is No. 232:

We need to get a gallon of the "ugly" color ink sent to FPN. We'll bottle it up ourselves. Guaranteed sell-out.

You can buy them on Taobao for slightly over three dollars each. I think someone should organise a group buy :)

Ink 184 reads as 藤黄 - yellow vine.

Might have to look for a forwarder to get it for you.

EDIT: to add link for ink. You're welcome.

Type penbbs into google and the top link should be the forum. Click on that and at the top of the forum page is a picture of a row of inks. Click on that and it takes you to Taobao. I would love some garnet and ugly ink but I've never used Taobao before and I'm a little nervous of it - perhaps unnecessarily so.

There are also a few for sale on ebay, including pearlescent samples, but for a much larger price.

You can read about my misadventures with Taobao in the following thread:

Although these inks are tempting, I will not buy any more until a liable and secure ordering system is available.

A different buying service, Taobaoring, says it is unable to ship liquids.

@vis...

Thank you again for the review.. It is a nice ink... Kinda similar to MB golden yellow

Really? I was thinking it looks almost identical to vis' review of El Dorado. This ink is really nice.

But what's up with that #235?

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I don't have the inks with me, but I can show you my splash cards:

As for the #235, I believe it has some silver particles in it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
