Can We Talk About Not-Yet-Announced Pens Here?

I'm not linked to MB in any way, but have some information about a pen that I'm surprised to see that wasn't mentioned here at all.

Normally, I would just write a topic about it, but following the whole embargo thing from last year, I'm being careful and thought that I should ask first.

Could it be this commemorative set you saw?

If I recall correctly, the quid pro quo for FPN's cooperation in the pre-release information embargo was that MB would develop some sort of a "special relationship" with FPN, making us privy to occasional interesting tidbits of information. Perhaps I misunderstood the agreement. Since that time, the only thing forthcoming from MB that I can recall was a very nice visit and tour of the factory for Wim. I have no desire to Make Wim uncomfortable, much less to expose him to a lawsuit, but it would be nice if MB could at least recognize the tremendous amount of free marketing they receive in these pages and show us some appreciation for our cooperation. I do believe we have upheld our end of the bargain.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

A very good point. Perhaps there is more to come, but it could be considered a little one way.

How about a free nib exchange for all members?

Nope. Gotta be a Dorothy Sayers pen dedicated to the Lord Peter Whimsey mysteries.

The accompanying ink will be called Strong Poison in celebration of the novel she published in 1930.

Love it! Monocle on the 888 version and walking stick for a clip on the regular?

Now what shall we have for the actual pen design? One has to be "gaudy" of course!

It's all so embarrassing, isn't it?

Fred

Yes, and irreproducible and unintelligible.

J. McCarty 3rd said it.

I also don't see one point of not talking about rumors or possible new releases as long as no copy right is breached. If Kozmokr is not willing to post his discovery, then - dear mods - close this thread please.

By the way: I stopped by my local Boutique today, bought a couple of refills and asked about the steel version of the M. They told me that it will be released this year.

SS version sounds very interesting!

Indeed. Since I very much like my Lamy 2000 SS (and the 50th anniversary as well), I am quite tempted by this one.

This is ridiculous. You'd think Beijing is watching.

~ Who knows?

Maybe they're breathlessly awaiting the red gold, red lacquer, special limited edition dragon's blood red ink 149 with the #8 micro-engraved in red everywhere.

Click the clip three times and the martial tune “The East is Red” blares forth.

Marketed worldwide as “an expression of Montblanc craftsmanship and the subtle Far East”.

Will it come in a Little Red Book?

Regarding Montblanc's policy, I personally would've loved to share the hype and excitement I get, for example, like when I received a list of every pen to be produced for 2017 along with their pictures- WE / POA / Great Characters and Artisan- courtesy of the meeting I couldn't attend in Hamburg this week.

But that's the thing many aren't getting. If and when Montblanc wants you to know, they'll tell you in due time. I'm not sure how that's any different from many other business that operate in the same way.

And since they ask us not to, the mere act of coming here and demanding a right to do so is like asking a question we already know the answer to but refuse to accept it.

And as FPN is very dear to me, whatever are the guidelines, I respect them and it is not my place to contest or to apply pressure when I know I have no right to either. I am not sure why anyone does, as they're welcome to take to any other form of social media and do their thing (on their own accord or responsibility) and not subject this place they 'cherish' to unnecessary controversy.

I second the opinion to close this thread and let's all go back to discussing the usual :)

~ As 2017 is a prime number, will this be the long-awaited year when Montblanc declares that music nibs, architect points, calligraphy nibs, 06B nibs, EEFs, super-flex noodles and cursive italic nibs are all standard nib exchange options throughout the year?

No?

Ah, sigh...

Well, there's always 2027.

Very nicely put. Quite reasonable.

But you should also understand, that many here, who haven't and/or cannot spend the 10's of thousands of dollars with Montblanc in order to be in the loop and get the advance information you do. They are fans of the brand, and naturally inquisitive. They know you know, and are a little frustrated that they cannot.

Montblanc wants to control the information, naturally. But if they were to treat their fans here a little more warmth, and perhaps give them a little advance information here they would endear themselves rather than alienate.

Or tell no one in advance and even the field.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
