Please can anyone help me to identify this pen.

The colour is Brown ( mid to dark )

Viewed from the top the cap has a pentagonal shape with domed top. As the 5 angles travel down the cap they form a standard cylindrical shape.

Cap clip has WATERMAN printed on it.

The gold band is 5mm wide

The end of the barrel is cylindrical with a pentagonal dome

The nib displays the words and numbers :

WATERMAN

14 C/TS ( the TS is underlined and smaller case to the C ) GOLD

60

Then there is a square upturned shield with what looks like a flower with two side shoots. Either side of this is ‘ L ’ and ‘ B ’. Underneath that is 14 CT

The pen measurements ( in mm ) –

closed length is 134

cap 55

the barrel and nib 120

lower shell 16

A great many thanks for your time.

It measures 68mm long

Has printed on it :

WATERMAN

MADE IN ENGLAND

TO FILL PRESS RIBBED

BAR 6 TIMES

AFTER FILLING

LEAVE IMMERSED

IN INK FOR 10 SECS

I have assumed that someone will be able to date this pen from the filling system.

Any help will always be appreciated.

I don't have anything but my own observations to support this, but there seemed to be a bit of a panicky spasm of model creation in the 1950s when the US side of Waterman was closing down and it wasn't clear that Waterman-JIF was going to step up as an international player-- pens with odd features that no one can find a reference for, but which are clearly the output of a Waterman factory in England or Canada. This may be one of that mob, although something about the pentagonal cross-section of the cap is trying to force itself into my failing memory...

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
