Let's have fun at guessing which Diamine inks they really are. From my previous expeirence with Akkerman inks I'm 99,99% sure they just sell Diamine inks in their bottles. My types are as gollows.

  1. Blauw van Vermeer = ?
  2. Dou's Emerald Groen = Emerald Green
  3. Gele Okre van Frans = Autumn Oak
  4. Hals Oud Bruin = Golden Brown (?)
  5. Izrael's zeeblauw - Eau de Nil
  6. Lievens Kardinaal Pars = Tyrian Purple
  7. Rembrandt's Karmozijn = Crimson
  8. Ruisdael Stomachtig Blauw = Blue/black / Oxford Blue
  9. Steenrood van Vermeer = Crimson (?)
  10. Van Huysun's Sapgroen = Meadow
  11. Vermeer's Kobaltblauw = Indigo
  12. Scharlaken von Jan Steen = Red Dragon

What do you think?

Wish I had known Vanness is going to carry them. I have already ordered them from Akkerman.

If they are just repackaged Diamine inks, then I'll pass.

It's been speculated on but I don't think any firm conclusions have been reached on this though.

My experience with the regular ones I've bought has been that they are *not* just rebranded Diamine inks -- even though the jury is still out as to whether Diamine is making them for Akkerman.

Some of these colors are quite interesting. Not listed on the Vanness site, though -- unless of course they're already sold out....

Budget. I had a budget. I know I did. But given I apparently left my prescription allergy medication in Pittsburgh.... (I'm sure the budget and the nasal spray have run off to Bermuda for the holidays, although their story will no doubt be that they were stolen by gypsies...).

I always forget i have a budget when it comes time to buy new inks. :)

I'm digging the look of those red ones. That Blauw van Vermeer swab might be down my alley too.

Wonder how quick someone will do a review on them.

Well, I remember comparing inks (text + chromatography) and Voorhut Violet and Damson were identical, Hopjesbruin and Sepia were Identical, Groenmarkt Smaragd and Umber were identical, Garuda Rood and Monaco Red were identical.

Well that's pretty interesting. I certainly don't need to double up on colors from two different ink makers.

Right on both counts, Ruth: there are Akkerman inks I've been unable to find among Diamine's supply, so even if the latter produce the former's inks, even if some are identical, the new series is interesting. After all, there are always similarities between new and old inks of the same manufacturer but this doesn't make the new inks less interesting, as there's always a pen that doesn't seem satisfied with the old stuff.

As for ink budgets: budgets? We don't need no inkin' budgets!

Even if they are the same...I'd buy the Akkerman just for the bottle...one of the cleverest ink delivery systems ever conceived.

From other discussions of Akkerman&Diamine inks. Made by Diamine......Akkerman is slightly differently formulated....don't feather quite as much as Diamine.

Most folks in the 'know', said they are not identical....some though are close.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ah, but how do the inks behave? I have both Voorhut Violet and Damson, and Damson is very dry. I don't remember that about Voorhut Violet (which I've used more recently).

Yes.. both Vis and Nick tested several (I believe Nick reviewed the whole line of 30+ colors) and both concluded that not only color but also behaviour was identical.

I am sorry... I put my money on my two favorites and extremely thorough reviewers of inks.. ;)

How, no facets anymore ?

Ik ontken het grote belang van de computer niet, maar vind het van een stuitende domheid om iets wat al millennia zijn belang heeft bewezen daarom overboord te willen gooien (Ann De Craemer)

Gordo, good point on the lack of facets in the bottle. The connection to Dutch master painters makes sense. The execution of the bottle packaging and label present a departure, a kind of modern, Erlenmeyer flask, science-lab like approach. The current smaller bottles are more antique and classical looking.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
