I'm waiting on my first ever fountain pen, a Pilot Metropolitan in Black! Looking forward to giving this whole fountain pen thing a go :D

Uh oh. did anyone warn you It's a slippery slope? It's good fun choosing, then waiting and anticipating, but it's even better when it arrives! Then you have to do it all again, because the best pen seems to be the next one. :W2FPN:

Will work for pens...

Seconded. Run away screaming now, or next month you'll be justifying that $600 Pelikan you keep hearing about :) But seriously, start looking for sales on pen storage now. You may as well get ahead of yourself!

I just started this crazy hobby about a month ago and I am presently waiting on three pens:

  • Montblanc 149, Black w/ Gold trim (F/M) (I purchases this from a FPN member.
  • Platinum Century, Chester Blue (Broad)
  • Sailor Lecoule, Garnet (Fine)

Totally can not wait!

Waiting to arrive from Japan. Will take a long time, especially Dutch customs.

I'm waiting for a Pelikan M250 that I won at auction last weekend from a seller in Germany. :P It's the Grey Marble. I'm seriously thinking of swapping its 14K gold OM-nib with a steel F-nib that came on a Burgundy M200 that I won from the same seller 2 weeks prior. If I do this will the 200 become a 250? :D Cliff

Just ordered a wing sung 698. I'm a sucker for demonstrators so I bought a clear one. It had been on my wishlist for a while and I finally pulled the proverbial trigger.

I think this is waiting for me at the post office... however, I don't think I'll pick it up because there's a customs fee/bill attached to it because the seller indicated that the pen was worth much more than it actually is.... importing goods is free up to 22€, I paid 15€ for the pen but it seems that the value indicated on the package is 40€. This results in a 20€ fee.... not worth it :(

Just bought a new aurora optima 360 monviso for a ridiculously low price... I hope it's not a scam or something like that! It was a German seller with good feedback on amazon.

Jinhao x450 fountain pen.

Every time the 99¢ Buy-it-Now, free shipping, pens appear on Ebay, from the two same sellers, I cannot order. The message says that I have already ordered. I have not ordered from either for nearly two years. So, patronize other sellers, with good success. Typically, my winning bid is $1.06.

The one, for which I wait, is the third one. With the other two, and two HEROs, I will ship , as promised, to the troop of American Heritage Girls. They are beginning a letter-writing project to overseas soldiers.

They have a variety of ballpoint pens, etc. I promised some fps. and a bottle of Thornton Blue ink.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

What was the seller? I placed an order for a Pro Gear Realo from a seller who implied he's got an inside with Sailor. Two months went by and he kept saying Sailor was slow to ship. Anyway I got my money back. If it's the same guy maybe he's up to something.

Thanks, amk! Would love to see yours! I'm bursting with excitement in anticipation 😊

Yeah, the feeling is quite familiar - it's the third time I buy from the same trusted seller, three weeks in the mail is perfectly normal ;)

All my Jinhao 992 pens have beed delivered. Amber, and Blue Demonstrators, and a solid Black from China...and a Grey Demonstrator I added on from a UK seller.

I consider myself lucky, in that I can see no cracks to the barrel ends. All are very smooth writers. :D

Mine arrived too. Less luck here - one has a broken cap (the seller sent a replacement immediately). They are surprisingly good writers, handling different ink beautifully, no skips or hard starts. The best combo so far is 992/R&K Solferino.

Practice, patience, perseverance

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
