Why Yahoo News classified this under "Sports" is beyond my understanding, but:

So Clarion is trying to do something more with the brand, and we can look forward to an attempt to get Sheaffer going again, too.

Does Cross even have enough products to justify a retail store? :) they've barely got enough SKUs downunder to decently populate a retail swivel stand, even when they've displayed every single colour combination and refills & inks

Quite the opposite, IMHO, one of Cross biggest issues as a brand is the myriad lines with little or no differentiation between them, and then you've got the endless colors and trim variations. All of which makes for pens with no clear market aim.

Just consider the Century pen, you've got versions ranging from less than a hundred dollars to $8k for a gold one!!!

+1. If you look at the product line offered at www.cross.com, you will find a myriad of different pens. And in a retail shop based on pens, there will also be notebooks, which need not be Cross products. They might confine themselves to the (small) range of Cross inks, but then again they might not.

I'll assume they avoid watches, cuff links, leather portfolios, etc., etc. But in the past there actually were Cross-branded watches, IIRC.

They do offer a wide range of pens, but, they have been discontinuing less expensive lines . Maybe to make room

for some of Sheaffer's offerings perhaps ?

I visited the retail store the other day as I live close by and happened to be in the area. It's not the biggest shop. I'd say it was about the size of a boutique. It's located in the same building as their corporate offices, so it's not like they're renting out major space just for the store.

As for the selection, it was pretty good with a decent selection of pens, inks, and stationery products along with a "sale wall" of lower price items like Baileys for $20 or so.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
