Crowdsourcing A Name For A Blue-Black Brew

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a nice name for a Blue-Black I have been mixing (I am utterly uncreative with names). Well-behaved and waterproof under my testing. Qualifiers for the name would probably be that it preferably isn't being used to name another ink (so Tanzanite is out) and no "blue" or "black" modifier.

If you think it looks like a commercially available ink please say so too. It looks pretty close to what I see on the paper. Thanks!

*Edit: The post on imgur is a teeny bit closer

It looks more like a dark blue to me so I'll start up with some suggestions in other languages:

German = Dunkelblau

Esperanto = malhelblua

Latin = caeruleus

I'd like the name Deep Sky. Not sure if that name is in use though. Another that popped into my mind is Late Night Sky. Nice color, I wouldn't mind a sample - or the recipe, if you're inclined to share!

Thanks for the suggestion to use a localized name. I'm Filipino so I should (at least) try to look for an appropriate local name. I do like the name Dunkelblau but it's already being used by R&K and De Atramentis, if I remember correctly. The Esperanto name is a bit funny sounding to me, but definitely unique!

The Latin is actually my favourite but does lead to some confusion for its closeness to "cerulean". I remember that De Atramentis Giuseppe Verdi thread here in FPN :lol:

I'm not sure too, sounds like a Robert Oster name! :D Something in reference to the sky (or the sea/ocean) does seem appropriate.

I'm not so sure about a sample (unless you live in Manila) but I'll post a formula soon enough once I finalize it (I'll have to look for it too among my notes). This was actually a brew made a few months ago but I've kept it in a vial and a few pens to test for any aberrant reactions and performance issues.

Washed Out Permanent Melancholy - Coal Black.

A mouthful! :lol: A bit like the elusive Quink Permanent Blue-Black with Solv-X that I've been searching for.

"Twilight" as long as you don't do a vampire theme.

While I'd like to use the name and make a stand this-is-how-you-do-twilight-no-sparkles-man, it's already used by Diamine. :blush:

Here are the first ones which came to mind:

1 Rainy Day or Drizzle

2 Slate

Thanks! Good suggestions too. I've had quite a few suggested to me and I'll sleep on it, I think. Keep them coming :D

Night storm

Stormy Night (sounds more like a perfume or a tacky song, to me)

Witching Hour (play on MB Blue Hour)

Moonrise

..and now my ideas are starting to get dorky, so I'll give up. (It may be too late, you decide. :) )

Soon enough someone is going to suggest Lonely Night, a riff off the Paul McCartney song :lol:

Hi,

I tend to play with the names of the inks that were used in the blend, such as Gal-Exi when I blended Noodler's Galileo Manuscript Brown with Noodler's Lexington Grey.

But that's my quirk. (Too many others to mention.)

In this case it seems that Orion would be a nice name. :)

I thought of using the name of the component inks too but, if I recall (the formula is somewhere in my notes) I used four+ inks to get this :blush: so it would be a bit hard to fuse something understandable out :lticaptd:

I do like Orion though. It's the frontrunner, for now. ;)

Thanks! Hatinggabi was also suggested in FPN-Ph. It would be nice to incorporate a local name and I'm definitely considering it.

Twilight has already been used by Diamine, and not as a shimmer ink :)

Darn!

How about "Dakota Twilight"? Then it can be original while still responding to the color. And, North Dakota is cool. Even South Dakota has one or two decent spots.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
