Montblanc 149

Recommended Posts

I picked up a broken 149.

And The Rod inside was broken in the end cap.

I have it apart and have cleaned it and everything works just fine.

The Snow Cap has a small hole in the top and I might replace that part or try to repair it ?

any ideas ?

Once I'm done I will do a little polishing and post some photos.

I will try to date the 149 using the serial number also.

I thank everyone for the posting that helped me repair this pen.

This is my second MB 149

Here is a Update.

The 149 is now fully cleaned and taken apart.

I have ordered the Helix part and have removed the C Clip and old helix from the Pen.

My best guess is the some person got a hold of this pen and kept turning it until the helix was twisted

and bent. Also the SnowCap has a small dent in the top. I have tried some white material to fill this area but may just ens up buying a new Snowcap. Once this is done I will buff it up and post some

pictures.

I've never had luck releasing a c clip. Always ended up replacing the blind cap and helix.

How did you get it apart?

I first took a small screwdriver and slowly ground down the old helix.

Then using a metal fork with a small hook made I got under the c clamp and pulled it out.

I should have the new helix installed later this week and will update my progress and post some photos when

the project is done.

Here is my latest update on my Montblanc 419

I"m still waiting for my new HELIX to arrive.

So I started to tackle the small hole on the top of the Snow Cap.

I have used Porcelain Glaze to repair this hole.

The first application filled in the hole and I just applied another small amount to dry for 24 Hours.

Of course the color is white and after it fully dries I will wet sand it again.

This is the same kind of touch material used a Bath tubs to repair a small chip.

After it is dry and wet sanded and fully polished I will upload a photo or two.

Until then... Have a long weekend and a safe 2017.

I'm hoping my PEEK Helix arrives on Tuesday ?

I once had a 146 that had had it's piston repaired by a Montblanc boutique manager. Some time afterwards, while I was cleaning it out, the whole piston rod came out of the C clip inside the end cone. So I had to buy a piston removal tool. To get the end of the rod under the C clip, I just flicked it with a long small ended screwdriver until it felt like it was firmly in place. I guess that's how people get holes in the end cone, but I didn't think of it at the time.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
