Anyone deal with this seller located in Germany? Al-Stars usually go for around $55-65 CAN in-store and he is selling for almost half the price with shipping included. It's quite the deal. Basically it is cheaper than getting a Safari locally.

Too good to be true?

Edit: I should add that this is for a new pen and many colours are available at similar pricing. This isn't the only one.

Where did you see that is in Germany?.. I only see that sellers is shipping from UK.

I do try to support local merchants, but sometimes the price difference is just too much. I do get my Lamy's from overseas.

Must have misread the answer to a potential buyer question on the page of another pen.

Got one a few weeks ago. Yes, pen is a real Lamy Al Star. I think it was 34 C$ for pen and some cartridges.

Well, I was thinking of supporting local merchants as well but you guys will make me cave; the price difference is too significant.

I just need to pick a colour now (I'm not the biggest fan of the Al-Star colours and prefer the standard silver-coloured nib).

I should have pulled the trigger. For some reason, these pens are selling around ~$40-50 now on amazon. Seems to be a different seller. I forget the seller that I had originally linked this to.

  • 2 weeks later...

The deal is back and ordered one yesterday in deep purple. I don't understand how there is a simple $5 difference between the Safari and Al-Star at this seller (Creoly). Unfortunately, they don't sell the converter for cheaper than $10 so I will opt with refilling cartriges for now.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
