Just for giggles, I should mention that Aurora blue is an amazing ink and one of my favorites.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I know this is a blue thread, but that KWZ Green #3 is a really nice color, another possible lookalike for Penman Emerald.

To keep this on topic, that sample of Aurora Blue doesn't have any purple tones, that I regularly see with it. But I agree that it is an amazing ink and one of my favorites as well.

By chance I have just been trawling through blues. It seems to me that Aurora Blue is nigh identical with Waterman Blue, when I look at swatches and writing from the same source.

IKB does not seem so different from the Waterman, allowing for commentary above, that I would be pursuing a closer match myself.

But my Aurora Blue is a lot more saturated/intense than Waterman's. It also has less (if any) green. If anything, more red.

Then I should buy it (the Aurora) :)

I'd like to say that if you're into blues for sure, then you need at least Aurora's and Visconti's.

I haven't tried the Aurora Blue, but I was able to confirm that Jinhao Blue (only available in cartridges, but cheap, so buy a lot and decant them into a bottle) is very much like Waterman Florida/Serenity Blue, but better behaved (less feathering/bleeding) and more intense.

I have followed your advice by ordering a bottle of Aurora Blue this morning. I am NOT "into Blues," BUT it's frequent recommendation as a superior ink by so many users makes me feel I should @ least TRY it. I vacillated between the Visconti/Aurora, but that plastic bottle LOST; never having used either ink, the elegant glass bottle WON.

(In full disclosure, I was ordering more bottles of the Stipula "Fading Grey" ink, to correct my mistaken order of the earlier Stipula "Dark" Grey as recent gifts, that Aurora made free shipping possible & seemed like kismet!)

How does Noodler's blue compare to Liberty's Elysium, for a match to IKB?

My concern is that I've only seen IKB on the computer and matching colors that way is really difficult. If you like, I can load up a pen with Liberty Elysium and send you a letter for you to compare if you are familiar with IKB.

Of all things, I didn't ink up with BSB during the 2016 year so I will ink up a a pen with BSB. I'm thinking that the great comparison this year will be showing inks in comparison to BSB instead of PPS.

Thanks Amber.

I have LE (which I like the color of), but not Noodler's blue.

From experience, looking at ink on a screen is less than 50/50 that it will match ink on paper. So I can't match up to IKB, as good as it looks on screen.

I also have PR DCSS blue. This ink sometimes looks identical to LE.

This IKB thread has got my attention back to blue, from my normal green inks.

I also ask, because LE is not a very well behaved ink in my pens. If I pause to think or contemplate, as little at 1 minute, the nib dries out, and needs a dip in water to get flowing again. And that water dip dilutes the ink.

And please consider my favorite Cajun example: George Rodrique's BLUE DOG!

Barking,

This is such a great reference, it deserves an illustration:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
